my gf got a speeding ticket in VA. can a local lawyer handle her ticket up there? out of state tickets count in NC right?

yes, a local lawyer can handle it. yes, va reports offenses to nc dmv.

if its 9 or less over the limit it doesnt transfer.. I got a 78 in a 60 on 85 early last year.. lawyer got it reduced so it wouldnt transfer.. which is good cause i alreadly had a prayer for judgement.. nothing transfered when I moved to MA so now my record is clear..

You've got to watch out through Emporia along I-95 and US58 up there. The last time I went to my parents house I saw 6 cops either clocking people or with someone pulled in a 4 mile stretch. Especially if you get off at US58. It is only a 45 in the city limits and they are everywhere with radar guns.As for handling out of state tickets, yes, the lawyer would have to be certified across the state line, which for a local lawyer is unlikely, but as someone said, I'm sure he knows someone who can handle it if you give him a call.

emporia has been infamous for years and years statewide and nationally for their traffic enforcement.

emporia, dinwiddie, and crewe, SLOW THE FUCK DOWN
11/15/2005 12:35:39 PM
hey guys, i got the ticket and it was in emporia too, right by the state line. the ticket is for reckless because i was doing 81 in a 65. i guess either way i'll have to get a lawyer. think they'll go easy on me since i've never even been pulled over before?
11/15/2005 1:11:53 PM
most lawyers in raleigh can have it taken care of for you (probably through someone else) or they'll have someone they know they can refer you too. Marcus Hill (durham) took care of my VA ticket. Doubtful he did it personally but it got done and that was what mattered to me. Cost me a little more than my NC ticket he took care of though.

i just calling manning & crouch and they said they wouldn't be able to handle it. they couldn't even recommend anyone in VA who could. boo.

dan, why the hell is this in the garage? i wasn't doing car maintenance while driving. [Edited on November 15, 2005 at 1:22 PM. Reason : doh]

cuz people who work on/mod cars are statistically more likely to speed! just ask GEICO!

The sign just states that it is a limit. I never specifies if it is an upper or lower limit. Somehow though, I don't think this approach would fly in court no matter how mathematically sound it may be.

first of all, 5 over in emporia is pushing it, second of all, when i get a few minutes, i'll pm you a few lawyer contacts in the emporia/jarret area
11/15/2005 8:27:56 PM

http://www.emporialawyers.com/Went through these guys when I got pulled in Emporia a year ago. Flat fee of $200, and then whatever the fine is. I got pulled for 80 in a 65 and got it reduced to "Failure to obey a highway sign". Nothing on insurance, total cost was $327 or somewhere close to that. Their office is right across the street from the court house.
