I'm looking to add a small sub (10") to the existing 12 speaker audio system (what a hunk of shit) to make up for the lackluster bass performance.Would line out converter work with this system, like it does on the bose brand?I tried google, but not too much luck.If anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

It'll workbut it'll sound like shitlike the rest of that pos system in that thingcut some speakers out, bypass the stock amp, replace your current speakers, and add a sub to a REAL CD player...cost more? Yes. Sound better? ANYTHING sounds better. Mike

i havent spent that much time in e38's but assuming the sound is improved from the e32 it just needs some more bass

is it DSP or non-DSP?the Nokia two-cone sub box under the rear shelf on my old e39 had quite enough bass for normal use - that was the DSP package system though - I did have to take the box out and re-tighten the torx fittings on one side of it to cure a buzzing thoughif yours is non-DSP find a car with that option and see if it's enough, adding the sub box would be a very easy way to upgrade from a non-DSP careither way the amp is external and the faceplate is nonstandard - removing the amp/head unit/miles of wires it seems would be the only way to fully upgrade those cars, and I never saw a quality looking DIN conversion kit for the head unit space

put a JL W-0 12" sub with and MTX mono-amp in the trunk and you'll be set

Dunno if it's DSP or not, did DSP come in 12 speaker variety?they really shot themselves in the foot when it comes to stereo performance.it's an engineering nightmare. For some reason, BMW engineers rolled off the sub around 40Hz!!! In other words, its bandpass is 10-40Hz. The fronts don't pick up the slack until 70-80Hz. As a result, you'll find a big hole in the 40-80Hz region when everything is combined.[Edited on November 10, 2005 at 8:03 PM. Reason : ?]
