Quote :
"So it was a matter of some consequence at the Oct. 31 White House press briefing when presidential spokesman Scott McClellan appeared to confirm the premise of a combative question from NBC News correspondent David Gregory. Gregory was reminding the press secretary that he had previously disavowed any involvement by either I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby or Karl Rove in the disclosure of CIA operative Valerie Plame’s identity to the press — based on assurances McClellan said he’d obtained from both top White House officials. When Gregory said, “We know in fact there was involvement,” and went on to describe special prosecutor Patrick J. Fitzgerald’s findings about Rove and Libby’s dealings with the press, McClellan quickly introjected words that seem pretty clearly to be “That’s accurate.”

And that is how McClellan’s remark appears in the transcripts sold by CQ Transcriptions, an arm of Congressional Quarterly Inc., and the Federal News Service. However, the White House’s own transcript has McClellan saying very much the opposite: “No, I don’t think that’s accurate.” And when the White House noted the discrepancy, officials asked CQ editors to revisit the wording of McClellan’s reply. This was curiouser still, since while one could conceivably argue that McClellan tripped over his intention to say “That’s inaccurate,” his delivery is far too rapid-fire for the expansive wording “No, I don’t think that’s accurate.”"

I thought Bush was going to restore dignity and truth in the Oval office. They're now doctoring their own transcripts of history!

The difference today is that you can actually watch them say one thing, and print the exact opposite in the same week!!

This administration has no integrity at all.

The thing I don't get is that it would be so easy to just say he misspoke. Why would you go to the extreme of being like THESE AREN'T THE DROIDS YOU'RE LOOKING FOR.

Look. Are you gonna believe what he said or what they tell you?

He probably did this because he's pissed off about the position that Libby & Rove put him in by misinforming him about their role in the leak.

I think we're going to have a pass a law making white house press conferences under oath. Maybe they'll quit lying to us then.

McClellan kinda shakes his head when he says "That's accurate."

Easy to confuse memory and creativity sometimes.

Do they normally correct for people mis-remembering things in a transcript?

^^ They really can't. This is some pretty Orwellian shit right here.

Even though I agree that analogy is VERY often overused...it fits just fine here.

Historians shouldn't bother writing a history of this administration. The truth will never be known, and Bush will go down as a black hole in the history of our nation.

Bush accuses Iraq critics of "rewriting history" and endangering troops

By: Associated Press

(TOBYHANNA, Pa.) - President Bush is accusing his Iraq War critics of rewriting history and endangering U.S. troops.

In a Veterans Day speech at an Army depot in Pennsylvania, the president said Democrats and other critics who claim he manipulated pre-war intelligence to justify war are flinging "false charges.""

I chuckled when I heard that speech. It's one thing to distort, but I don't even know what the hell he's speaking about here.

Is it the prewar intelligence business?

Why the fuck do people keep bringin up Clinton? Newflash people, Clinton is not the President of the US anymore, Bush is and we will focus on his failures. Let Clinton go people. Clinton didn't sign fascist Patriot and Real ID acts into law. Bush and the majority of Democrats AND Republicans are enemies of the American people. They run in stark contrast to everything the US stands for which is liberty and justice. The majority of the people on Capitol hill need to be tried for treason for crimes against the United States.
