Who's the stronger conference for the upcoming bball season, the Big Least or the ACC?http://www.roanoke.com/sports/acc/wb/wb/xp-39483

Big East. NO QUESTION. Most years it would be close. Anyone who thinks the ACC is stronger this year doesn't need to post in Sports Talk anymore. Period. And no I'm not looking up any empirical evidence because I don't need to.

^^ you're god damn right I'm correct. Seriously. The ACC is historically the best bball conference year in and year out. In 2005-2006 they aren't even close. It's not opinion. It's fact.^ anyone who thinks BC is anything but a flash in the pan program obviously hasn't followed college basketball for too long.[Edited on November 8, 2005 at 1:04 PM. Reason : f]

arent even close? plz.Big Least is marginally better. They dont play the games on paper, lets just see how it goes.
11/8/2005 1:06:12 PM
Big East has what 16 teams, so there bottom tier finishes 14,15,16 in a leaguewe have 12 and even a team like miami, picked to finish last a year ago played good ball
11/8/2005 1:10:46 PM
i agree with nym that on paper from top to bottom the big least looks better this year. being an ACC homer, I will wait for the season to play out a little bit before i draw any final conclusions
11/8/2005 1:15:11 PM
Keep in mind that their bottom tier had a winning record against the ACC LAST YEAR (providence, st. johns, etc)... I was just trying to get a reaction earlier in this thread but for real, the Big East is a better conference this year simply because of the losses the ACC incurred player wise after last year...
11/8/2005 1:16:33 PM
Big east is probably better, but some of this is sheer quantity that is all i am saying, and it is a down year for the ACC

ahah.. not at all. I like this area (triangle) a lot. I mean I am moving back north soon but this area was great to live in for college...I just don't see how the ACC stacks up head to head at all this year with the Big East. Just my opinion..
11/8/2005 1:44:57 PM
Maybe not this year, but any given year...who knows? I could see one of those jumping to fifth. It wasn't too long ago that some of the those clubs were middle of the road.Oh, and I love Coach K's crack on the Big East:""I don't see how you can have a league and not play somebody in your league," Krzyzewski said."

On paper, it's the Big East.I'm used to seeing so much marquee talent in the ACC, that when so many key players from several teams leave, it's easy to say that they are going to struggle. So until the ACC proves me wrong, I have to give the Big East the benefit of the doubt. But in all seriousness, somone needs to switch the Big10-ACC challenge to the Big East-ACC challenge. We all pretty much know the winner will have exclusive bragging rights along the east coast until the following year.
11/8/2005 2:07:33 PM
They used to have it. The rumor was that Coach K and Coach Smith wanted out of it at the time because it added one more very hard OOC game they didn't want and only could hurt national recruiting.I don't know if that was true or not but that was the rumor...
11/8/2005 2:12:59 PM
Sounds legitimate. I mean c'mon, bragging rights on the East Coast? It'd give the conference a miniscule edge over the other.
11/8/2005 2:14:29 PM
ACC has better teams Big East has more good teams than bad onesThey are both good conferences
11/8/2005 3:37:33 PM
ACCTop 10 teams: 1Top 25 teams: 4Big EastTop 10 teams: 3Top 25 teams: 5I fail to see how ACC has better teams at the top? But this is really pointless to argue I guess right now anyway. We'll see how it plays out once again..V um why? Big East has 2; ACC 1[Edited on November 8, 2005 at 3:43 PM. Reason : f]
11/8/2005 3:39:51 PM
do it by top 5do it
11/8/2005 3:42:54 PM
I think the argument can be made that the ACC is better than the big East because the bottom of the big East is quite a bit worse than the bottom of the ACC. Sure, the Big East has more teams in the top 25 preseason, but what about the other teams? Maybe the ACC has more teams that have the potential to jump up into that top 25.I'd say its close, with a slight edge given to the Big East right now.
11/8/2005 3:44:19 PM
i was jki havent even looked at the preseason rankings
11/8/2005 3:47:04 PM
ACC top 25 : 4/12 teamsBig East top 25 : 5/16 teams4/12 = .333 of teams in ACC in top 255/16 = .3125 of teams in Big East in top 25
11/8/2005 4:28:31 PM
^We also just barely missed out of Top 25. The ACC had 7/12 recieve votes. The Big East only 6/16.Looking at actual votes:ACC 767 484 190 167 76 16 6 = 1706 / 12 = 142BE 692 644 536 265 210 10 = 2357 / 16 = 147So, maybe the BE is a little stronger, but it's not significant. The BE does clearly have stronger top tier teams, no question, but I think the middle & lower tier of the ACC is clearly stronger than the BE.
11/8/2005 4:49:18 PM
big east is better as far as preseason is concearned but as the season progresses acc teams will emerge and make it closer but the big east will still appear better because they have 4 extra bottom feeders to beat up on
11/8/2005 5:38:47 PM
i see the 16 team BE bball conference breaking up. some of the smaller schools that are non-fball contributing will break away. too tough to compete when you've got giants like UConn, Syracuse, Louisville, Cincinnati, and Pitt at the top, plus a competitive ND team. [Edited on November 8, 2005 at 7:43 PM. Reason : ]
11/8/2005 7:40:11 PM
^playing those teams will raise the view of the program by recruits. more players will want to play for those schools now that they are in the big east with the exposure of playing uconns cuses and pitts
11/8/2005 8:24:01 PM
The Big East will be strong at first... but there's not enough wins for everyone to have their typical great recordIn a few years.... after they all start knocking each other off and recruiting hurts... it will marginalize just like the ACC. Cincinatti will become Virginia... you watch. That's just the way it works. There's not enough wins for everyone to have winning records.

FSU actually doesThey had the #1 class 3 years ago.... and have been in the top 10-15 since what's his face got thereClemson... noFSU actually recruits like hell somehow
11/8/2005 8:38:10 PM
Hamilton's done some good work, I'll admit.
11/8/2005 8:45:20 PM
Done some good recruiting work... his team still sucks baws thoughEh, in fairness they've gotten better... but he's still wasted some talent. [Edited on November 8, 2005 at 9:43 PM. Reason : sdfs]
