Hey I was interested in possibly doing a website for my hometown. One guy has one now in phpbb format. Its alright, but he's been a prick lately about booting people and shit like that who don't agree with him. I started a little free bb site to use temporarily, but I wanna really nail the other guys balls to the wall. Crazyweb works so easily and looks damn good. I'd be really interested in using it to make my message board/website.So would Jake be the guy to talk to about picking it up from him? I don't want to spend a buttload of money on this, so I thought I'd also ask who to get to host the site. If I went through hassell do I buy the domain name and then pay him for the server or what? If I get that other job, I may be able to just host the damn site from my job, but until then I wanted to know how to go about setting up a slick BB like this. Any helps appreciated, and yes I'm about to shoot CrazyJ a message now, but I doubt he gets on much anymore.

how the fuck do you think this is a good-looking message board?this is one of the worst boards i've ever seen.and on top of that, it's in asp.[Edited on November 7, 2005 at 7:10 PM. Reason : asp]
11/7/2005 7:10:14 PM
Well how about this, easy as fuck to navigate and use. Its better than that phpbb shit we are using now. Then can you suggest something that is better I should look into?[Edited on November 7, 2005 at 7:11 PM. Reason : ]

yeah tdub isnt going to win any contests on any levelspeed looketc.
11/7/2005 7:18:38 PM
yet for some reason this message board format seems to attract non-techies really well..
11/7/2005 7:26:32 PM
this is the cleanest board because there isnt any shit like avatars and signatures
11/7/2005 7:29:04 PM
^ agreed, and its very simple...one reason why non-techies use it so much
11/7/2005 7:32:24 PM
11/7/2005 7:33:57 PM
it's better than gamefaqs.com boards
11/7/2005 7:35:37 PM
Oh ok I know I used to his name up here all the time for hosting. And thats what the majority of the users would likely be, non-tech savvy people in a community. Most the students at State have grown up on computers, or are at least pretty competent on using the internet. The people that frequent the current site run from younger kids, college age and 20's up to 50+ people. Thats why I liked the simple and easy to use design on this site. I didn't mean that it was full of fancy and high tech crap. But its easy to operate, easy to navigate, and shouldn't be too hard for people less familiar to message boards to get acquainted with.
11/7/2005 7:35:57 PM
there are about a hundred things wrong with CrazyWebif I (or anyone with a little slickness in 'em) cared enough and was bored enough, it'd take at max a few hours to write some code that would pretty much crash the entire PIC network (or any CrazyWeb site) and force them to shut down, fix the error I'm thinking of, and revert to backup. Probably a backup that was several days old, considering how fucking infrequently they check up on these sites. I should be banned for life for talking shit about him like this, but I'm not worried, 'cause he ain't gonna read it.There are about 5-6 other bugs that he KNOWS about that he has neglected to do anything about. Why anyone would want to license a bone-bare minimally configurable web-board with more known serious issues than any product within several orders of magnitude this size should have is beyond me. The only attention they're giving this code anymore is marketing it to poor saps like you that don't realize this could be duplicated in less than a week of work by any competent ASP.NET developer.[Edited on November 7, 2005 at 7:40 PM. ^Well then show me something better please. And also consider that the user base is probably not a bunch of damn geeks like we have around here that constantly work to break the board and push the limits. The worst thing I have seen so far is people are posting...nude pictures. OH WOW and also going crazy and trying to impersonate other people. OH WOW those crazy kids! So I'm not terribly worried about some cyberdork or ubergeek writing code and trying to destroy my website.
11/7/2005 7:39:21 PM
who in the fuck could think php board or other fucking bullshit boards are any good?Crazyweb is definately one of the best boards i've ever seen or used.It looks great.
11/7/2005 7:40:57 PM
You probably weren't worried about some cyberdork or cybergeek writing code to crash your home computer until half a fucking dozen worms probably put your computer out of comission for a month, if they aren't still on there spamming the entire fucking Internet with themselves. Open, serious flaws in a software's design = speaks terminally of its code quality. I can't tell you about the alternatives, other than the fact that most are free and open source, and will consequently have much much higher standards than the neglected bastard child of a project CrazyWeb is.Hey Sleik, ever heard of a cascading style sheet? Yeah, judging a webboard by its appearance is pretty silly. You might want to consider the number of GAPING, DISTENDED-ANUS-ESQUE VULNERABILITIES.[Edited on November 7, 2005 at 7:45 PM. Reason : *]

PS No punk or little bitch has ever crashed or loaded my computer before, kthxu. I haven't even updated my damn Norton in 2 years and I have no problems. I firewall my shit, and run some other stuff to keep it clean. So sorry, I have never had any problems with viruses, spam, or bots on my computer, just my e-mail box is full of pr0n, which is a mixed blessing.
11/7/2005 7:48:14 PM
there are probably a fucking thousand unique message board implementations that are bare-bones. BECAUSE A BARE-BONES IMPLEMENTATION TAKES LESS CODE. I FUCKING ASSURE YOU THE NIGGARDLY DESIGN WAS NOT ON ACCOUNT OF ANY UNIQUE UNDERSTANDING OF AESTHETICS CRAZYJ POSSESSES. IT'S A CONTINUATION OF THE THEME OF NEGLECT AND APATHY THAT IS ALL-PERVADING IN THE FUNCTION AND DESIGN OF TWW AND ITS DERIVED CRAZYWEB PRODUCT.but if me yelling at you about gaping vulnerabilities and shitty code isn't going to convince you, then by all means...[Edited on November 7, 2005 at 7:50 PM. I checked out a number of them and weren't impressed. Not very pretty, function problems, etc.I would like a specific example if possible not just a "Hey you can look on Google asshat" kinda solution. That doesn't really help me, and neither did that site.
11/7/2005 11:01:16 PM
I'm not telling you to use Google. I'm just trying to rub your neurons a little and help you to the conclusion that doing business with a company whose modus operandi is neglect might not be the best solution.

im also looking to use crazyweb for to make a message board for another community.if anyone here would like to help me and get paid for it then please contact me.

Ok you guys are being terribly thick headed hear.We all agree that incognegro is a festering tampon but to actually pay money to use CrazyWeb is about the most boneheaded "business decision" anyone can make.

11/8/2005 1:16:13 AM

11/8/2005 1:28:46 AM
php boards, vbulletin, ubb, etc are all fucking homosexual.slow, bloated, pointless crap.
11/8/2005 1:35:05 AM
Incognegro:point me to a SINGLE message board that you think is better constructed and looks better than this one.OR SHUT THE FUCK UP
11/8/2005 7:19:09 AM
I like CrazyWeb. Sure it doesn't have all the features of other message boards, but this has a simple, easy-to-use interface that looks CLEAN. The other boards try to look slick and in turn begin to look like crap. The only forum software that I remotely liked was Invision Board, with most of the features turned off.Another thing is, look at how much volume TWW gets. Thousands of users with thousands of posts per day, and the site keeps on chugging along (with only a few 500 Oh Shit's). Plus, if this software sucked so much, wouldn't someone have come along within the 5 years this site has been online and created another TWW with "better" software and taken all the users? Some changes I would like to see would be post-based search (instead of title only), and a link from someone's photo gallery to their user info (to make stalking easier).
11/8/2005 7:55:36 AM
yea, a google box on top of TWW's server would be hella nice
11/8/2005 8:06:55 AM
phpbb, and all the other open board formats, could easily be made to look like this board. There is nothing inherent to them that requires bloat (but, a lot of lame admins like the eye-candy).There is also a board system called punbb that was designed to be bare bones, and is php-based.

http://secunia.com/search/?search=phpBBthe next person to advocate phpBB needs to get on some security lists, and get off phpBB.(btw, i have no opinion in this argument - but phpBB has continually been proven to be a great example of how NOT to code a web application. so turn it off before your site propagates another worm)oh, here's some stuff on invision -http://secunia.com/search/?search=invisionit certainly hasn't taken nearly the high profile that phpBB has, but it's far from perfect as wellhttp://secunia.com/search/?search=punbbhas a pretty bad start too, but from what i've seen, it's at least more sane than phpBB/PSA(done editing...probably)[Edited on November 8, 2005 at 11:39 PM. ^ the difference is that most of those holes are constantly being patched and upgrades are being released.say you go here: http://secunia.com/search/?search=crazywebdoes that mean crazyweb has no security flaws? no, we all know them. and on top of that, nobody's fixing them.anyhow, i'd go with invision if i wanted to pay for it, or i'd go with SMF (http://www.simplemachines.org/) or phpBB2 since those are the 2 my hosting company already supports by including in fantastico and will automatically upgrade for me. i think that'd be my biggest criteria since keeping up with all that shit is such a pain when you have a thousand other things to do besides administer a board.edit:i forgot, there are some that are included as part of content management systems that you may look into as well - since picture galleries and stuff involve more than just a forum.these are the ones my hosting company supports: Drupal Geeklog Mambo Open Source PHP-Nuke phpWCMS phpWebSite Post-Nuke Siteframe Typo3 Xoopsbut i'm sure there are others out there.[Edited on November 9, 2005 at 1:08 AM. What's wrong with PHPBB? I like it alot better than this format. It's so much more pleasing to the eye and plus you can have avatars, sig pics, etc. I think that's pretty cool, but that's just my opinion.
