buy a couple of NIC's for it and you'd have yourself a nice router. Or put a big HDD on it and use samba and have a file server. If you put linux/BSD on it, it'll do almost anything you want (except games).

i think i'm going to throw a minimal gentoo install on it and make it a router. my linksys router fucking blows.hmm... wireless though, only have a microsoft 80211g card, back to square one

hell, that's a lot of power for a router. The computer I'm (eventually) building as a router is a PII-333. (Thought it has the same amount of RAM as yours, 192 mb...)

dont know what to do about the damn wireless situation though maybe i'll take my shitty linksys now and hook that up to my new computerouter just for the wireless part.ghetto.[Edited on November 7, 2005 at 12:42 AM. Reason : ]

I've got an 800mhz P3 i'm using for a router I need to ssh into it sometime and check out top to see how much of the cpu is idle (although it's not actually setup right now, PSU died, was making the computer freak out, replaced it, haven't gotten around to setting it up again)For wireless I use a Linksys access point (WAP54G). It's sorda overkill, but it's nice (too bad it was expensive as fuck). If you get a decent wireless card (try to get an atheros based chipset) you can just use that in the router to make it work.Oh, and while i'm at it, you may wanna look into a distro like smoothwall or pfSense (that's FreeBSD based). It's sorda a noob solution without tons of customization, but it's better than a linksys router, it's easy to setup, and the web interface is nice as hell.good luck

my router is 1.3ghz but it does lots of realtime analysis and such to make use of it

pr0n server/computer. Seriously, that way you can let vistors/parents use your regular computer without having to worry about them discovering anything.Either that or could hook up to TV/use as emulation machine.

when i build my next MAME cabinet i may use it in that.

check out http://pfsense.com/ before putting gentoo on, if you are just gonna use the install for a router.pfsense > m0n0wall > *based on m0n0wall but a billion times better. captive portal, load balancing. etc
