I have to take BO 414 with Blanton or BO 421 with Boss next semester and am trying to figure out which to take. I have heard bad things about both classes/teachers. Any comments/suggestions?

I know a lot of people who picked between these two based on what they wanted to do after graduation...what do you hope to do?

Vet school.

Well, I would take ZO 421 if that were an option, otherwise, go with BO 414, which is more overall cell bio rather than a plant marathon (to my understanding from friends, if someone has taken it and feels otherwise chime in!).

Any other opinions?

I really dind't like blanton's class. It 414 is cell bio right? He's always preoccupied with being the head of the Honors program that he's slow on grading and unorganized at times.[Edited on November 6, 2005 at 4:34 PM. Reason : dsdsds]

^ Yeah, BO 414 is Cell Biology. I thought it might be a good class, but now have heard some not so good things about it.

good god... do not take blanton for cell bio....i didn't take 421 so i don't know if one is the lesser of the two evils... but i was not a fan of cell bio.

^ I don't really want to take it, but I think it may be my only option. I graduate next semester and need a physiology elective and BO 414 or 421 are my options. I'm not a big plant person so was hoping that 414 would maybe be better.

^What was so tough about it? The content, teacher, tests, etc.?

Well he was a brand new teacher. He only gave Multiple choice tests and two "papers" (which took him months to grade b/c we had 200 or so students). The tests were like a bunch of different word banks. For each wordbank there were 5-10 questions. For the questions you would be given a clue about a word and then you would have to put a corresponding letter. You didn't have to use all of the words in a word bank and you could use some more than once. Thats where it gets hard so you have to know the stuff cold or you'll lose points. The material was just taught badly in my opinion. He said when he taught in Texas he had more short answer questions and such, but due to time constraints he couldn't possibly grade those here. I think a TA or problem session for that class would have been good.

^I completely agree with everything.tests were really really tough for me, and it seemed like he was quite unorganized when it came to the lectures..
