Need help locating a 4BD2TC turbo diesel. Usual avenues online aren't very helpful. Been told that recently they've been going on ebay for a mere $1g.putting together an idea.

it's underneath the hood.
11/3/2005 4:38:28 PM
yeah i need a complete LT1 with transmission, harness and PCM. searching ebay is a big pain in the ass, I cant seem to narrow down the right keyword.
11/3/2005 4:59:14 PM
maybe try charlotte import trucks
11/3/2005 6:48:23 PM
Without spending time looking...I'm presuming that this is the 3.8L diesel found in the NPR and NQR trucks...
11/3/2005 7:07:09 PM
zx:you'd be correct
11/3/2005 10:50:44 PM
i only know NGR trucks, sorry
11/3/2005 10:57:21 PM
why do you ricers always do that gay engine code stuff.
11/4/2005 9:28:22 AM
you're calling Maugan a ricer? lol. Not by a long shot.
11/4/2005 10:04:49 AM
thats the engine designation code.its also a lot easier to say than, "Turbo diesel intercooled engine that came in the Isuzu NPR box trucks that just happens to be a 1-to-1 swap out with my gasoline engine and would take only moderate amounts of modifications."Trying to decide if this is a better route than a supercharger.
11/4/2005 10:09:10 AM
why didnt you just say that cause i have an intercooler out of one of those beasts
11/4/2005 10:12:30 AM
I'm trying to find the whole damn thing in one piece.that designation implies the intercooler that comes with it.
11/4/2005 10:27:30 AM
I would do the diesel route. Fuck gasoline for a rig. I want diesel. I'll keep my eyes peeled.

11/4/2005 11:54:47 AM
What are you planning to put this in?
11/4/2005 11:55:05 AM
^VX. i believe they share a common b-housing with the 3.5, or can at least be made the work.
11/4/2005 1:09:36 PM
11/4/2005 1:21:31 PM
wont the diesel get you more reliable power and fuel economy?
11/4/2005 1:51:04 PM
I would also think an engine that came out of a box truck would be a torquey beast. Probably not much for revs though. MPG?
11/4/2005 1:53:20 PM
Figured it was for the VX. What about getting it inspected? Are any diesels even ODB-II?
11/4/2005 2:12:35 PM
Lets be clear here that this is still an idea at this point. As Tuite well knows, the 6VE1 is a pretty decent powerplant but it has an oil circulation issue that seems to be completely hit-or-miss as to whether or not you'll get a frozen bearing. The 4L30E is probably not going to be able to take the torque specs, and only one VX has been converted to manual (right hand drive one at that, rally beast). Probably would need a manual trans out of a '00 trooper along with the ECU and Trans computer so it will play nice with the TOD transfer case and computer.
11/4/2005 2:14:56 PM
^^what about being gay? inspections are an afterthought :flipoff2:
11/4/2005 5:07:23 PM
found out last night that this ISN'T the NPR motor.I'm looking for the 3.1 diesel that came in foreign "Bighorns"
11/7/2005 2:30:03 PM
Ahhh...isn't the Bighorn the overseas equivalent to the Trooper? Or is it the Rodeo? The older Troopers were called Rodeos overseas.
11/7/2005 2:36:46 PM
BIGHORN = TROOPER
11/7/2005 2:47:19 PM
The whole thing kind of left me wondering...because if you've seen the engines in the NPR's...they're physically pretty big. I didn't think a VehiCross would have room for that. Hell, I didn't think that the Trooper would have room for it.
11/7/2005 2:53:22 PM
Apparently its been done.but its a bit heavy Good engine for a buggy build maybe.
11/7/2005 3:06:50 PM
I think it is the 4J series, and they only made a little over 100hp. The holden jackaroo is the australian name for the trooper.
11/7/2005 3:41:06 PM
you should get a diesel hood for you trooper, that would be so rad.
11/7/2005 4:24:50 PM
Hood scoops make it fast.Tad swap in a LS1 and give me your 3.5L, I think I need a spare. Is yours a 98-99, aren't those the only ones with oiling problems? What about the DI 3.5L they put in the Rodeos? Everything should physically bolt up, just have to deal with the wiring harness and computer. Toss on a supercharger while you at, with the VX being so unique it would be nice to stay Isuzu.
