Can't be that small considering that it is the headline story for the BBC right now. If anything, the United States seems less interested since we're so consumed with our own myrad of problems. This is probably a lot scarier for the Western Europeans right now since all the major states in that region has a large, dissatisfied muslim minority. Britian has its Commonwealth immigrants, France has its Algerians, Germany has its Turks, etc.

meh, i dunno.
I was in Paris all weekend (last Friday-Tuesday). I think the riots started sunday or monday, but it certainly didn't effect my plans in Paris. Granted we spent the whole time mostly in center city away from the poor suburbs where this is happening, but there was certainly no feeling of impending doom or anything. I only heard about it in a CNN World blurb.

Now i'm back in Munich and I haven't heard one co-worker mention it and it doesn't seem to be the headlines in any of the local papers....

Because Paris for tourists is probably like New Orleans for tourists.

As long as the tourists can go to the French Quarter and casinos, they don't give a s*** about the rest of the city.

Yeah I guess that's an accurate statement. Arabs, Africans, South Asians, Americans, Brits, South Americans, Russians, Chinese, I dislike them all, to varying degrees, and for varying reasons.

Australians, Europeans, Malyasians, Far East Asians, I don't have much against, because they don't seem to be committing many atrocities (recent history, i.e., past 10 years or so).

probably true. But anyway it's getting a lot more press in Munich now that it has gotten even worse. We talked about it today at lunch. All my co-workers agreed that if anything like that started in Germany (or at least southern germany/Bavaria), the police would put a stop to it very quickly.

Of course, there is the question of if it would happen here. If the cause of the riots stems from racial problems and poverty, it probably wouldn't happen here - Munich/Bavaria is about as lily-white as the mountains of NC are, with a fair number of Turks, but they are well integrated and are generally in the same social-ecomonic classes as other Germans. And poverty seems not to be a problem at all here - i've yet to find a slum in Munich and every single town/villiage i've been to in Bavaria make rurual NC look like a dump (oh wait... rurual NC is a dump)

paris for me was nothing like how you're saying it would be "like new orleans." Then again, if I had been to new orleans, I wouldn't be that way either. When I visit a city, especially one with such history, I do as much exploring as possible

Tonight, in one suburb of Paris, 2 schools and 27 cars were destroyed

And an elderly disabled woman was killed inside a bus when these Osama Jrs. threw a molotov cocktail into the bus

The French are being too lenient with these rats.
