Monster HDMI cables are 125 dollars at best buy.I can get some generic ass cable on ebay for 25.Are these cables for 25 worthless? Obviously they're not as superior as the monster, but are they just flat out sucky?

Monster cables are worth it when your TV is $5,000+ and you're a videophile about quality. If you own something less than that it's just not worth it. Also come to AudioAdvice and get your cables. The people there actually know what the fuck they are talking about when you buy it. They can show you and tell you why it's better and if you need it at all. You can call us at 881-2005 if you just want to ask. Our prices are the same or better in some instances plus if you ever buy any warrantied item (some monster cables are) we make everything very easy on you generally taking care of the warranty replacement for you.Check us out.

someone gimme the hook up at best buy
10/29/2005 10:34:39 PM
wtf - as I understand, HDMI transmits a digital signal, in which case IT DOESN'T MATTER SHIT what kind of cables you have
10/29/2005 10:41:37 PM
haha my parents just bought a 50-some inch LCD (or some other nice TV), and i know for sure my dad ain't gonna spend $100 for a cable. If it does make a difference, I can get him some for Christmas
10/29/2005 11:23:04 PM
I had a 25' Monster S-Video and it fell apart in no time. Just buy 'em online, Best Buy will rip you a new one on cables.
10/29/2005 11:25:34 PM
^^^ It matters to a point. For $25, it would depend on the length of the cable, but it could be good, or it could be complete garbage.[Edited on October 30, 2005 at 1:05 AM. Reason : ]

as long as your cable meets spec, then it should be fine. who cares if there is interference on the cable when all you're doing is transmitting ones and zeros. as long as it is not enough to flip a bit, it doesn't matter one iota
10/30/2005 8:26:21 AM
I wouldn't use monster cable for extablishing your comparison price.

Explain to this good user ( MiGZ ) about error correction or lack thereof in a DVI / HDMI cable.
10/30/2005 12:02:43 PM
ahahahahayou think error correction happens in a cable
10/30/2005 12:03:30 PM

I am currently using a HDMI to DVI convertor and a OEM Samsung monitor DVI cable to run my DVD player and it looks excellent on the HDTV. I would have to say that digital signals are gonna be the same no matter what cable you use, unless it is shitty enough to allow bits to flip.

I have a 50 inch plasma tv and hdmi dvd player. you can really tell the difference in an upconverting dvd player from a regular dvd player when using the HDMI cable. I have mine hooked up by both HDMI and Composite, just to see the difference. HDMI makes a big difference
10/30/2005 4:20:52 PM
10/30/2005 4:22:48 PM
I bought a 15' hdmi -> dvi cable for $7.95 with gold tips, heavily shielded. works flawlessly on my monitor. Forget even $40 for a cable.
10/30/2005 4:27:01 PM
^Hell YES

10/30/2005 9:24:34 PM
speaking of up-converting DVD players, is there really a big difference between 480p and upconverted 1080i or 720p? Just want to get an opinion on whether buying one is worth it or not.
10/31/2005 1:09:58 PM
Don't waste money on 1080i unless you are going to waste money on 1080i. Excluding the cables. If it ever crosses your mind to buy a 125$ cable, then save the money to abort your first concieved. Repeat for every instance wherein buying a 125$ cable occurs to you, for every other successful conception. 1-to-1 until you're about out of excuses to buy 125$ cables, and then save that last 125$ to buy a .22 rifle to finish the rest of them.[Edited on October 31, 2005 at 1:30 PM. at this point, you'd be better off waiting for HD-ray discs
10/31/2005 3:31:18 PM
it'll be another couple years before those reach a point where the economics involved could be described as 'financially responsible', though, maybe
10/31/2005 3:46:42 PM
i bought the $100 cables but it was for a 4,000 dollar 41" lcd tv so i was trying to make sure it works like its supposed to.although my ece teacher says they are worthless but i feel better knowing i did what it takes to make it work properly.

$100 analog cables: maybe$100 digital cables: you stupid shit. kill yourself now you're a disgrace to engineering
10/31/2005 7:28:03 PM
yeah, i bought monster coax cable for the cable inthats analog.now i understand since taking some classes why you dont need it as much for digitalbecause all the device needs to know is whether the current signal is on or offright?but i bought it for protection against surges and any noise from the cable input
10/31/2005 8:50:45 PM
that's what surge protectors and power conditioners are for.http://www.digitallyunique.com/f9a1033-12.htmlthat would offer way more protection against surges than moster cables between devices.Unless you bought shit componenents, any damaging surges are going to originate from outside your theatre setup... I've never heard of someone's receiver frying their tv. I've heard of lightning frying everything through the one unprotected component, but that again is what a 20-60 dollar surge protector is for.again, agreeing with most of the people who know what they're talking about. paying 120 bucks for cables, surge protectors, or masturbation toys is just silly. now, it's LESS silly getting a really good surge protector and power filter, but paying retail and getting it at best buy is still just as dumb as paying 120 bucks for an optical cable.[Edited on October 31, 2005 at 10:12 PM. i got the $100 surge protectori gotta say i know alot about getting deals online but sometimes it just aint worth the hassle
10/31/2005 11:52:07 PM
I know man, using pricegrabber or just going to newegg and clicking on stuff is a huge hassle to save yourself 30 to 70 bucks.and yeah, I'm just giving you a hard time. sometimes we get too lazy to wait for stuff from online retailers. just tell me you didn't by the tv at bestbuy too.[Edited on November 1, 2005 at 10:43 AM.
