I know this isn't about cars - but duno where else to post.I have the following water softener (here is the manual)- http://www.culligan.com/culliganweb/1000003/docs/mark_100_1998-2000_og.pdfHow high are you supposed to keep the salt level? Does it vary from model to model? The user man. above says in the cleaning section to fill the salt within a few inches from the top after cleaning... is that the level it should be at all times? doesnt seem right to me.thx

thats most likely the level to keep it at all the time. i would assume that in the cleaning process everything is emptied out, thus afterwards you would need to fill back up with the correct amount to function properly. if it says a few inches from that line, then i would stay at that point all the time.

basically, as long as there is enough salt so that there is some solid still in the tank, you are good. that means the maximun amount of salt that can be disolved in the water is, to put it in simple terms. so whether its 30 inches deep or 2, as long as you can see salt pellets you are ok.

coo thx for the info. I've been keeping it at bout 50% full so will continue to do that.

Your setup looks a lot like mine and like dude said, as long as you can see the salt pelets above the water line you should be ok. Where do you live? have you had the water tested since youve had it in? I'm out in Apex and my unit messed up, when the guy came out and tested the water it was at 15 grains per gallon of hardess, which anything over 8-10 is considered very hard. I'm going to let it run for a week or so and test the water again to see if its better.

hahahaha, did you see the CSI that was just on? you might have a dead body in there, causing it to mess up

^Mine messed up because some dumbass(me) put in straight ion resin into the resin tank. The ion resin stuff is concentrate and has to be mixed 8 oz per gallon of water.. I corrected that problem, emptied the salt brine tank, put in new salt and made it regenerate 3 times to clean out the filters. Seems to be working fine now.
