Long story short-

I was DDing last night in my boyfriend's car and since I don't usually drive it, I ended up speeding on Avent Ferry. Got pulled over for doing 15 over 40, told cop when I handed him the registration the car wasnt mine and I was DDing for my friends. He was VERY generous and wrote the ticket for 9 over...

So here is my question-

I was told by a friend that if I just pay the fine and court cost for the ticket, the citation would NOT be reported to my insurance company...

Another friend told me I should go to court and they will probably drop the whole thing since it was only written for 9 over and I was not driving my car, circumstances, etc...that way it would for sure be dropped and I'd only have to pay court fee...

I have already used my prayer for judgement w/in 3 years and also already have a speeding ticket for 11 over reported to my insurance company in the last 3 years (they typically will ignore one speeding ticket for every 3 years)

What should I do? Please help!!!

Any recommendations are GREATLY appreciated - I really would like to avoid insurance troubles if at all possible...THANK YOU!!!

There's tons of threads about this sort of thing.. I don't have any firsthand experience though

speeding on Avent Ferry isn't a very good idea, btw

i think you're gonna want to try to get that dropped. because i think your ticket that you used your PJC on will come back up since you got another ticket(this one) within the 3 year period. so, get a lawyer and get it dropped. but hopefully someone else who knows more will chime in

from my experience they don't care whose car your driving because you're still able to read the speedometer (assuming it works properly). i wouldn't lean too heavily on that excuse.

^ & ^^thank you for responding helpfully rather than blast me for bringing up a ticket question...looking thru past ?s on this matter worried that that was all I would get...

I have looked thru multiple topics and my question, if you read it fully, is explicitly different from many others I have read...

My problem is the effect this could have due to my currently used PJC and another speeding ticket being pardoned for the time by my insurance company...

Basically, if I just pay the ticket, will the ticket be reported to my insurance co. or not?

(Unless you want to give me advice that does not regard doing more searching, pls do not reply, theres no need) Thx!

He was not that generous......generous would have been giving you a ticket for 5 over or somewhere around there. A DA would definitely drop that, but a 9 over puts you on the fence of him droping it or just keeping it 9 over.

I would hire a lawyer at this point since you have already gotten tickets before, he may be able to convince the DA to drop it.

usually a ticket for 9 over will have no affect on insurance if you have no other infractions against you, at least call a lawyer, tww doesn't know shit

Yea

I realized this after I pulled into KP doing 55 mph and the car behind me was pulled over right as I made the turn.

I am never speeding again.

from what i understand, if you use a pjc then you can not get another ticket for 3 years or both of them will count.

now a 9 over ticket will not give you any insurance points, it may activate the other ticket you used a PJC on.

like mentioned above, i would contact a lawyer or student legal....sounds like a tricky situation...

you could always go to court on your date and speak to the DA, then if you dont like what you are told, you can get a continuation and obtain a lawyer, thats what i would do...

go in and sweet talk the DA and see if that works, may save you some money

get a lawyer and take the 8hr driving course before your court date. the lawyer should be able to get it reduced to improper equipment(no points)

i don't mean to be an ass, but how do you not know you are going 55 in a 40 no matter what car you are driving.

Raleigh is hard to get improper equipment in.

I believe a 9 over doesn't affect your insurance IF you don't have other speeding tickets. Since you used a PJC and had another ticket I believe the 9 over would activate the PJC offense, plus the added insurance of a 9 over with other tickets on your record. Basically, good luck with a lawyer or handling it, b/c guilty on a 9 over with your driving record will hurt your insurance. On the plus side, you are starting with a ticket written to 9 over, rather than getting it reduced to that.

I was written a ticket for 9 over (should've been 17 over). I went to court and got the DA to reduce it to a non-moving violation (with the understanding I was going to defensive driving class - 4 hrs one Saturday morning). My insurance renewed and there were no increases in the premium.

BTW, I have a 9 over ticket and a non-moving violation on my record within 3 yrs.

9 over IS reported to your insurance company. it is a waivable offense if you have a clean record for the last 3 years. get ANYTHING else (even another 9 over ticket) within 3 years, and you get charged for both.

same thing with PJC. you will now be charged for the PJC offense as well as the 9-over ticket.

wake county doesn't really do the improper equipment thing.

when was that 11-over ticket? that should've activated the PJC right there and gotten you charged for both.

since the cop reduced the ticket on the spot, you might not be able to get it reduced more. it's worth a shot, i guess. call James Crouch (lawyer) if you want. he's probably you best bet. get your insurance agent to quote you new rates with the 9 over ticket and see how much more you'll have to pay if you don't contest this ticket.

what did you use the PJC for?

[Edited on October 29, 2005 at 12:43 PM. Reason : ^non moving violation is ok. that's like a parking ticket, for all practical purposes.]
