at 235 LBs just might be what the doctor orders for for our inside game this year. That is sick! That is heavier than Powell was in his short stay at NCSU and he was pretty danm decent. What is everybodies thought on how he would match up against Eric and Sheldon Williams. I know that is Cedrics spot, but if he is injured and the fire that Brackman plays with he could tear some shit up.
10/27/2005 9:16:07 PM
did he weigh that much last year?
10/27/2005 9:19:15 PM
...is my neighbor.
10/27/2005 9:21:01 PM
he was 210 last year..maybe 215.
10/27/2005 9:24:09 PM
freshman 15
10/27/2005 9:24:57 PM
he's got an inch and a few lbs on Ced now
10/27/2005 9:26:39 PM
Yea but B-Rack is a better outside player than inside. If he can face the basket against Sheldon and the other good centers then in my opinion he would own them just because he has good ball handling skills and can shoot.
10/27/2005 9:38:20 PM
Didn't have some monster blocks last year at 215 lb? Sounds like we have our selves a verstile guy out there.
10/27/2005 9:44:51 PM
sometimes weight gain backfires for white guys.... shavlik randolph for instanceill reserve judgment until i see him on the court.if it doesnt zap his quickness, it should be a good thing.
10/27/2005 9:51:51 PM
Do you think the Willams brothers would manhandle him in the post or should he (Brackman) be able to feed it to them?
10/27/2005 9:55:35 PM
i think Cedric actually had more blocks per game. or atleast for a while he did. I know packpride keeps showing the nice block Brackman had on Schenshure(sp?) where he pins the ball into the backboard.
10/27/2005 9:57:11 PM
maybe he'll teach the basketball team how to juice up like the baseball team does.
10/27/2005 10:13:21 PM
He prob wont' lose that much speed because as a pitcher for the baseball team I am sure he runs alot.
10/27/2005 11:00:55 PM
pitchers don't run the way basketball players run. pitchers run distance, basketball players run sprints. brack could be in better shape than anyone on the team, but pitchers aren't usually too quick.
10/28/2005 8:22:27 AM
dem crackas cant ball
10/28/2005 8:25:10 AM
he'll be good this year, but it will be his last year with the basketball team

shav didn't put on muscle though, he was just chubby. remember when dunleavy put on all that muscle? the dude was BADASS

B-RACK[Edited on October 28, 2005 at 9:03 AM. Reason : k]
10/28/2005 9:03:18 AM
10/28/2005 9:34:19 AM
Shav didn't beef up. He had more weight fluctuation than Oprah.
10/28/2005 9:35:26 AM
not to get completely off subject, but can somebody please explain to me how shav is playing for the 76ers.... family connections or what?
10/28/2005 10:09:08 AM
76ers President and General ManagerBilly Kinghttp://www.nba.com/sixers/front_office/billy_king.htmlPlayed for Duke in the 80s.It's also extremely doubtful Shav makes the active roster unless aided by injuries. I mean Jason Capel is "playing for" the Bobcats, and Rusty Larue won some rings with the Bulls.
10/28/2005 10:35:14 AM
B-Rack will play this year and next, just not his senior yearput $money on it
10/28/2005 11:03:30 AM
you guys are nuts. shav was a twig his freshman year and he was a big boy last year...
10/28/2005 11:14:22 AM
big=chubby
10/28/2005 11:16:15 AM
randolph was definitely a beast last year. he wasn't chubby. i saw him a couple times up at the carolina country club pool when i worked there over the summer. not chubby. just a beast.
10/28/2005 12:07:40 PM
beast or not, he still sucked ass.
10/28/2005 12:23:39 PM
indeed
10/28/2005 1:27:43 PM
exactly, the gains in size made him slow and lumbering...he was a terrific shot blocker but thats it... i think the weight gain will be good for Brackman, im just stating that it doesnt always produce positive results in all aspects...apparentally NBA scouts are looking at him too now so i doubt he gives up on basketball at the end of this season unless things go really badly...
10/28/2005 1:39:58 PM
Shav was always slow on his feet. he never had that quick first step you need in college.and while Shav was good at shot blocking, i think part of that was because he got to play 4 and clean up behind Williams.
10/28/2005 1:51:30 PM
a lot of shavs minutes came when Williams was resting or in foul trouble...he was a nice shot blocker, no need to attribute that to his teammates...he just kinda sucked in every other facet of the game
10/28/2005 2:34:57 PM
i think this is brackman's last hoops season as well. he'll be drafted in june '07 in the MLB draft, and he'll probably be advised by scouts, coaches, parents, etc... to sit out basketball in the winter of '06 just so he can focus on his pitching ability and draft stock.BobbyDigital, i guess it varies on where you play baseball. I pitched in college and while we did run sprints with the team, we did plenty more long-distance running.
10/28/2005 3:19:14 PM
he's probably an NBA draft pick too though....so I bet he plays his Jr seasonhe can make just as much money playing basketball and less chance of injury derailing his career...[Edited on October 29, 2005 at 11:22 AM. Reason : a]
10/29/2005 11:21:59 AM
he can make tons more in baseball, and I think it is guaranteed. There is no cap(i dont think) for "rookies" in baseball, like there is in the basketball the first few years. You sign a 50 million deal, you get it in baseball no mater if you are released, traded, etc. As a Pitcher in Baseball, he would(if he is good) have a longer career, and earn more money. You can Pitch and be "old" Unless he thinks he will be a lottery pick in basketball(doubtful) he should and probably will concentrate on his first love, baseball, after this season.[Edited on October 29, 2005 at 11:46 AM. 10/29/2005 11:44:53 AM
^ not exactlyYou get the signing bonus no matter what, but you don't start getting paid like a major league until you make the majors. So say he went 15th in the draft, he'd get like a million dollar bonus or so but then be making $20,000 a year or whatever...
10/29/2005 3:58:26 PM
10/29/2005 4:24:53 PM
^ like i just said.thats not true.If he signs a major league deal then it is guaranteed. In order to sign a major league deal he has to make the majors AND still be there when his rookie contract expires...If he went ~15th in the draft he'd probably get ~$1million signing bonus and start making $30,000 a year (more or less depending on what level he was playing)...If he made the majors his contract would jump to the 300-400K range prorated based on how many games he playedNow if you take into account how many 1st round picks never even get a cup of coffee in the majors, he's not quite the guaranteed goldmine that you seem to think.Sure he appears very talented and he's a lefty which is a huge plus.... but injuries and other things pop up all the time.A first round NBA pick gets a 3 year deal GUARANTEED and will make much more money than a 1st round baseball pick that never makes the pros...Now if he becomes an AJ Burnett type pitcher he would make about 50% more than a Troy Murphy type NBA player...However, it is WAY too early to predict what type of MLB or NBA player he would project too....All I am saying is that I think he's likely to keep his options open and that basketball 1st round picks are guaranteed approximately double of what baseball picks are....
10/29/2005 4:46:12 PM
i really dont know anything about baseball and was just hoping to waste your time
10/29/2005 4:49:25 PM
haha well nicely donei think he has more future in baseball too, just saying its a little early to hang up the shoesbesides you get more ass and exposure by playing basketball than baseball
10/29/2005 4:51:04 PM
he wouldnt be my first round pickbut neither would villonoava(spelling) or hodge so YMMV 6'10" white guy
10/29/2005 4:52:05 PM
yeah at first when i read NBA scouts were looking at him i thought they were nuts...but the more i thought about it he's a 6'10 guy with athleticism and a decent shooting touch. He's put on weight this year and if he refines his jump shot a little and improves on his athleticism theres no reason he couldnt play in the NBA.THere is always a demand for 6'10 guys who can hit 12-17 foot set shots... think Doleac, troy murphy, etc...
10/29/2005 4:59:10 PM
he could play both the major league and nba, the season conflict is manageable[Edited on October 29, 2005 at 5:16 PM. Reason : sdfsdf]
10/29/2005 5:15:45 PM
do any of you really think brackman has a legit chance of making the NBA? i think you may be getting way ahead of yourselves. he knows he can make it in baseball and i would imagine if he doesn't put up 12/6 this year in basketball he's going to be leaning towards mlb.

Didn't get much out of Brackman's conditioning at the red/white game today. It was kind of hard to tell if the weight slowed him down, but he was still putting the ball on the floor at the top of the key and driving to the hoop against big guys. How many 6'10 guys are there in the leauge that can draw big men out to the permiter and either get the two points or go to the line? On top of that he was knocking down some deep threes, so overall, it was a good show for him. But there is no way to really judge stamina based on a scrimage. Everything looks A OK from what I saw though. The big suprise was Fells; wow that man was playing like a pass-first point guard today and had excellent D. And I am not talking about flashes, either.
