Any new viewpoints as of today ?Which wins - Blockbuster or Netflix ?I was studying Blockbuster Inc for my Accounting Project and those guys are posting losses like crazy. If they continue like this, I don't know how long they will survive.Netflix seems to be doing much better on the stock market atleast.

I heard netflix is so much better than blockbuster but i still use blockbuster.com. Ive been using the one at a time deal for a couple months now. Its about $11 and you get 2 free in store rentals which can be used on movies or games.ehehe, and blockbuster.com just sent me a coupon so i can get a certain previewed movie for free. Im gonna choose The Day After Tomorrow. AGGGHHHH, THE COLD IS COMING!

Yep I do research stuff. I was actually in a quandary as to which to choose. So I made Blockbuster Inc my Accounting project - I had to review its financial statements over the last three years and predict where the company is heading in the next few years. They're losing millions because of all their investments which haven't paid off. They spent a tidy sum last year to fight Netflix's move online. The problem with the mail DVD business is that suppose you buy 200 copies of Doom to meet demand, very soon that demand subsides and you have all these copies of the movie which no one wants to rent and in effect you have zeroed your investment.Blockbuster's share price is doing terribly as well as compared to Netflix which is on the up and up.The only thing that was swinging BB in my favor was the fact that I live opposite the BB store on Avent Ferry and the two free rentals a month would have come in handy. I wish Netflix would buy out BB's online business . BB has some neat obscure movies that you don't find on Netflix. I'm a big fan of British comedies and BB has a superior collection. I'm currently trying out Netflix's one at a time offer. My first DVD should arrive tomorrow.

hmm which british comedies do you recommend?
10/27/2005 12:06:26 AM
Fawlty Towers, The Office, Father Ted are good ones. The Young Ones is a great show too but it is hit or miss.

Oh and btw Hollywood video has a great selection of british comedies.

Blockbuster has a 1-day turnaround for me in Charlotte. And, as mentioned previously, they hook it up with the coupons

I am starting to get fed up with netflix, all of the movies at the top of my queue are either a short wait or very long wait. Now these are new releases so I can't complain too much, but you would think that they would get a clue and maybe buy a higher volume of movies that they could predict to be popular.

Netflix > Blockbuster in terms of their service. I did, however, like all the coupons Blockbuster throws out just to get you to stay.I tried a "switch to blockbuster from netflix" trial promotion they had, and in addition to 2 free months of BB online, I got 2 free DVDs, 3 buy-1-get-one-free pre-viewed DVDs and a bunch of free instore rentals. When I told them not to renew my account, they gave me a 3rd month free plus more coupons.I _really_ liked them because of that, but it was their mail-order system that was really lacking in terms of reliability and availability.

I haven't tried Blockbuster but I love netflix. I also have never had to wait on a movie. If I remember correctly, Batman Begins was in my mailbox the day it released.

jbtilley I realized that, but Netflix is getting in the game of selling used DVD's just like blockbuster. I'm not a business major but seems to me that they could still edge off some profit from buying in higher volume.

^^yup same herewith batman begins. sent it back today

blockbuster slows down your mailings if you return em quickfirst couple i got quick and i'd send them back the next day(once i put it in the mail at 6am and they sent an email that same day saying they got it)well anyways its really slow now
10/27/2005 10:58:20 PM
i'm pretty sure netflix does that too
10/27/2005 10:59:33 PM
Netflix....on principle.FUCK Blockbuster and their 'no late fees' bull shit
10/27/2005 11:15:32 PM
conal...if you live across the street from blockbuster do the in store thing. just rent and walk across the street...although the selection at that blockbuster sucks...i would still do that before a mail thing if you're across the street[Edited on October 27, 2005 at 11:20 PM. Reason : .]
