So it appears i have virus or a technical problem that won't allow me to run a virus scan. I tried uninstalling what I had and then I went to NCSU's website and downloaded the antivirus program again and the problem persists saying that it has been interupted during installation. If anyone can help me I'd greatly appreciate it.

try downloading and running a program called "stinger" in safemode. about a 50% chance it'll catch whatever virus you have (since it doesn't catch all of them, but it does get some of the most common) and I think stinger was just updated recently. Also, call 515-help. They can get a resnet technician out to your room to troubleshoot it for you. Getting your antivirus program up and running is in fact one of the things they do most often and are most experienced at.

Did you go through all of the correct removal steps when uninstalling antivirus before trying to re-install? I remember the NCSU website said something about having to do a few more things then just uninstall to get it fully off your computer.

when i had this issue earlier it was a corrupt windows installer problem, not sure if it's your problem, but throwing that out there...

you could give nonav a try before reinstalling.it blows away all NAV related reg edits and fileshttp://www.ncsu.edu/antivirus/files/NoNav.exewe use it at work. Works great

Definitely call the help desk. You tell them you can't get antivirus on your computer because you think you have a virus, they'll have somebody come out.

Yes, synapse is right. Almost always, whenever a Symantec installation fails in this way, there is some virus or spyware on the system preventing it from installing properly.Remove the malware first, then it should reinstall perfectly fine.-bigginal
