I just reformatted and loaded windows xp on a new (used) laptop hard drive after having to replace the old one, and before the install is even done, i get the blue screen of death. The error code is: KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR. Anyone know wtf that means?

hmm, memory perhaps...Is it possible that the original hard drive never had a problem and it's the hard drive controller?[Edited on October 24, 2005 at 12:04 PM. Reason : ]

download, and burn the Memtest86+ ISO from here http://www.memtest.orgRun that, and it'll tell you if you have any memory errors. Thats the #1 cause of bluescreens in my experience.

Ok, I did Memtest8+ and the memory is ok. Is there any similar tool I can use to check my hard drive media and configuration? It would need to boot from a CD because i don't have a floppy drive for this laptop.

^that's not going to matter if I reformated my whole driveI downloaded ultimate boot disc, and I'm not sure what tests to run. They all have obscure names that don't make much sense...
