Usually this guy makes me want to stab my eyes out and delete all memory but this article was actually thoroughly enjoyable:

I'd also blame media lazyness. They just don't feel like explaining the coolest new things out of microsoft, while a video ipod doesn't really require that much explanation to get people to read about it. Whenever you try to educate your reader base, you always run the risk of boring them. Doing it right requires more effort than the media is appearently willing ot put in.

I typically hate reading Dvorak's stuff, but he's not too far off point on this one.

Quote :
"The tech writers and tech columnists for the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, and Fortune are all Mac users"

Every time I hear anyone say "OMG Walt Mossberg likes the new iPod - it must be great!!!" I really want to stab them. Walt is the biggest Apple suckup/zealot in the MSM.

The media's obsession with promoting Apple is a little over the top.
But so was their obsession with degrading Apple no more than half a decade ago. In the 1990's, you couldn't read a movie review without hearing about the "beleaguered" Apple that was going out of business RSN.

I guess Apple's just a fun company to keep an eye on, and when it's doing poorly, the media pounces on it, and when it's doing well, the media pounces on that, too.

but as always, there are plenty of things to criticize with Dvorak's column:
Quote :
"With 90 percent of the mainstream writers being Mac users"

Really? News to me.

I was unaware that I was getting cable for free.

^Yeah, there is a cost associated with being able to watch and replay a TV show at will. That has never been free, whether you use a vcr (cost of tape), download (itunes) or Tivo.

Yes you could download illegally but that is playing a little unfair.

I was unaware that the Disney Channel is available over the airwaves.
I was unaware that MTV is available off cable.
I was unaware that there is a "cost" associated with commercials.
I was unaware that Apple is in talks with other networks to provide more TV shows over the iTMS.

The iPod is currently the most popular music playing device by far. The press would be retarded not to cover it.

I bet you didn't hear about Apple's quiet bump of the Mac Mini in specs, the update in the iMac, and I bet you don't hear too much about Apple's new quad processor Powermac or Aperture photo management software. You can probably easily find stuff about all of those, but they are no where near as reported as the iPod news.

I think you just have a case of tunnel vision, and instantly associate the iPod with Apple getting too much press, when in reality, you are just hearing about the iPod which happens to be one of the most popular CE devices out now.

Well I doubt the majority workplaces outside of the media use Apple software, so does it really matter?
