so, are there anybesides the usual:AIM(Adhack, ++, and whateverthefuck the new AIM vers. is that blows)GAIMTrillainMSNYahoothat have really nice interfaces for XP? one of my mac friends had a really cool one a while back that was very minimalistic. kinda looking for something like that. I almost wished that Konfabulator had a widget that did cool things with an MSN or AIM. Any thoughts? ideas? links? Discuss.

Trillian + Microscopic 2.0. It's minimalist. Takes up the least amount of space while still providing a simple interface. Frankly, it boggles my mind why people choose to have bulky windows and unnecessarily large formatting bars for their IM windows. How many times do you honestly click on a formatting bar for normal conversation? And the normal bold, italic, underline can be done with keyboard shortcuts. This is my setup with the contact list and four different window configurations shown, in varying degrees of complexity.

trillian is gay

trillian can run kinda bloaty depending on the skins, plugins, and options you use. I have about 5 AIM screen names and so about 400 people in my buddy list and I have it display all their icons, sometimes scrolling is sluggish on my 1 ghz celeron laptop, but for the most part it runs fine. If it does run sluggish for you, try a different skin and try turning off stuff like automatic-wikipedia lookup and icons displaying in the buddylist.you should only need to do that if you're REALLY low on system memory or install wierd plugins and crazy skins.

i liked the look of trillian but it would randomly fuck up and the html profile viewer occasionally crashed
10/17/2005 9:21:21 PM
Jon what OS are you running? Trillian has issues with Windows ME. Everyone at work runs trillian or gaim with 0 problems cept user error hehe. The only time I had issues with Trillian myself was on an XP machine where something in the registry went "*SCREAM*" and died. I uninstalled it completely, directory and all and reinstalled it and no problems from then on. Some skins of trillian are user created and have bugs. I use Aikon2 and love it. It doesn't allow for all the features because it's an antiquated skin but hey... it looks nice and I only use it to chat, not send files etc.
