Well hell, if the Romans thought the gods were with them then I guess we'll say Jesus is with us.Jesus, however, may have different feelings on the matter.Maybe something about wearing two types of cloth or something.

Jesus looks like a hack magician there
10/17/2005 10:40:28 AM
my initial thought is "i don't like his style"i also think the composition is weakthe smoke technique is the strongest part of the painting imolastly...it's gonna work though b/c it's gonna cause controversyso personally, i don't like it enough from a technical standpoint to even appreciate the subject matter

my questionon second viewing"it took him 4 years to come up with Jesus in a Flag in the 9/11 rubble?"

the firefighter in the bottom right is rubbing his eyes in the "aye dios mio" fashion.
10/17/2005 11:29:06 AM
it is not a very good painting at all
10/17/2005 11:42:51 AM
Kevin Smith is Jesus?!?!?!
10/17/2005 11:58:24 AM
The guy has a style that doesnt suit the subject matter at all, and a very weak sense of composition, and of balancing light/dark and colors across an entire piece.

What a waste of a thread... the least you could do is go out and find another bumper sticker that you feel is declaring a threat on your life.

Isn't it illegal to wear an American flag like that? And why is Jesus just standing there, instead of helping them firemen out? He's a carpenter, for chrissakes...
10/17/2005 2:11:17 PM
lazy fuck
10/17/2005 2:37:06 PM
Carpenters don't work with steel and concrete. durrBesides, the last time civil servants wearing funky helmets came around Jesus they nailed him to a cross.

RUN, NIGGA! RUN!
10/17/2005 3:01:17 PM
Maybe Jesus wearing the flag that way is analogous to him allowing 9/11 to happen.
10/17/2005 3:13:13 PM
that son of a bitch.
10/17/2005 3:15:05 PM
Looks like Jesus in a pile of rubble to me, am I missing a hidden image?
10/17/2005 3:37:20 PM
American Jesus.
10/17/2005 3:53:01 PM
Maybe that's just Jesus getting ready to kick some ass. He's putting on his super Jesus cape.

Like whoever else said, all it's got going for it is the controversy it will generate. In fact, I get the impression that the whole point is for it to be controversial.
10/18/2005 1:12:42 AM
I don't see him trying to be controversial with the painting. I would think he was just trying to say that Jesus is there to comfort Americans facing the horrible tragedy of 9/11. Its just a bad painting through and through, get over it.

at first glance, it reminded me of goya's Los Fusilamientos del 3 de Mayo:with the white shirt, arm raised, men in uniform.then the hazy sky, reds and blues, and triangular composition (with the two men kneeling on either side of jesus) reminded me of any number of Ascension of the Virgin paintings:the meaning of this particular painting is kind of hard for me to discern, though.

It's stupid... or just unoriginal. Jesus is there for guidance and support for those who are downtrodden or have been wronged? Wow, that puts a whole new spin on things. And then there's always this: http://www.commondreams.org/views02/1110-04.htm
