I am looking for some home theater advice...and some good spots to read reviews.

Currently we have a 46 in HD tv with TWC DVR. However we don't have any real speakers. We would like surrond sound but our only option is to do wireless speakers in the rear (due to the room setup). Since we have a newer TV we have plenty of video inputs so we really don't need a reciever that has video switching.

Because of this, I have been looking at DVD stereo systems, but they all seem pretty cookie cutter and I can't really tell a good one from a bad one. Anybody got any good recommendations???

The price range isn't really set but I would like to keep it under 900 dollars or so.

exteremly hard to beat for under $500

no matter wha the setup of the room u shouldn have to run wireless rear speakers. most of the wireless rear systems asre sub par and sorta gimmicky. there are ways to run the wires so they at are hidden and no one can trip over them.

bose speakers are severely overpriced.

they are ok sounding, but worth nowhere near what they charge for it.

paper cone speakers for thousands.

any sound processing other than any sort of decoding or DAC isn't better at all. BBE, Bass boost, all that is crap. There is a reason why stuff is mixed by professionals in recording studios...

And the bose DAC's aren't that good (I really like analog audio better, but that probally won't be back...digital is too good of a buzz word)

another thing...bose systems are all treble and midbass (well, the little cube lifestyle systems are, the real speakers are better).

Before you think about getting the onkyo system at CC (which I agree would be a decent route to go, I almost did that myself) I'd suggest looking for the 770s online. I just got one for $324 shipped not too long ago (and right after that the place I got them from put them on sale for about ~$50 less.)

And the reviews I've read about them say it's pretty hard to piece together a system that sounds this good for 2 or even 3 times the price. If you want, you could even come over and listen to them at my place before buying them.

Then again if your range is under $900 it sounds like you're not looking for the absolute best bang for your buck and if piecing together your own system sounds like fun, then there's always that route.

Bose systems under $1500 are not compariable to what else is out there, Over $1500 is a different story. This is coming from from someone who works for Audio Advice, a company who's sole existence is to create systems and packages to please the audiophiles of the world. We're so good we don't even advertise and we're backlogged for over a month.

The onkyo system is very nice for under $500. Just look for sites that have customer reviews on items and go for what you like more. For me I prefer a soft base with a very clear sound. That generally only comes from large speakers.

Here's a question. Why can you only do wireless in the rear? You're going to lose a LOT of quality and bass. If you have carpet or hardwood floors just run it under the molding and over the door frames. Use inch nails with a thin flat head and go between the wires for the parts you can't hide and use the same color cable as your walls. That's a quick fix that will get you power and quality.

Draw a picture of your room setup and I'll show you how.

I agree that Bose is to expensive. I am not looking for something that is going to recreate a movie theater experience. I just want something that is going to fill up the room with good sound. I am not looking to listen to music or something that has perfect audio clarity. I just want a system that when I am watching a movie and I turn it up that it just doesn't get louder...it stays clear.

That is the way most TV's are...you turn them up to a certain point and after that, it is just louder....you can't hear better....but it is just louder.

When you go to CC or Best buy or where ever...they have 20 different systems for 300~500 bucks that all sound aight in the store...but what happens when they are in a 20x20 room properly setup? I have heard a lot of good things about Onkoyo so I will look into them more.

I don't see how sucking one's self off helps you spell, but I am pretty sure that base is a word and makes sense in that context.
