Family Guy will become less funny soon enough. It happens to every show. The Simpsons win in my opinion simply because each season had/has at least one gem of an episode.

Simpsons takes the stance that "we know we're funny"

Family Guy takes the stance that "we're trying to be funny"

i, for one, hate the self assuredness of the Simpsons. Alot of their jokes sorta come across more as insults, as in "we're sooo edgy and sooo zany that if you don't laugh at us, you're missing the best!" i dont know why, but i HATE their writers. and fuck lisa simpson. worst character in tv history.


Family Guy is hit or miss though.

"We're trying to be funny" is comedy's death sentence. It's one of the reasons Family Guy only works half of the time, in fact.

People will laugh at unfunny shit if you sell it.

I grew up with the Simpsons it was all right when I was a kid but I just don't find them funny at all anymore. I can actually tell you when I stopped liking the series, the summer of "Who shot Mr. Burns" totally fucking blew it for me.

it's already happened to family guy. it's the same old stuff over and over. you can only rely on the same kinds of jokes for so long (the slowly backing away when theres an awkward situation, the perpetual laughing or moaning and holding one's knee sequences). granted, they still get a laugh out of me sometimes, but for the most part i'm disappointed in the lack of orginality displayed in this new season.

moral of the story? southpark beats them all.
