damn. Those things better be cheap because on my ride, I couldn't afford to drop $175/tire like that

those are $181 a pop. kumho ecsta V700s (r compounds)but i didnt buy them, i got the wheels used and they guy threw the tires on w/ them. they were in good shape when i started this season (he said he had one event on them). the autox school saturday killed two of them, so i took them off, put the two remaining good ones up front and put two street wheels/tires on back. by the end of the event yesterday another was corded. so i guess the timing was perfect. got a full season and 2 schools out of them. but enough of this high maintenance crap, to street tires i go for next season.

call me crazy but the appear to have been over inflated each time?

i was thinking the same thing

how much air you run in those. and did you check them after each run.ive seen worn down slicks. but nothing that bad. it could be normal but hell

nah, they never got over about 35psi hot. is what happened is that there are two small lateral grooves in the tire which divide the tire width into thirds. as the tread started wearing low (about two events ago) they began to chunk a bit w/ the outter edge of the chunk being the outside groove. the groove seem to create a nice low spot and once it finally got low enough the rubber began to peel at that point. it then just got worse and worse. according to the gurus its what happens when R comps are past their 'shelf life' and the rubber gets old and brittle. it doesnt adhere to the cords right and it becomes like a skin. the grooves are the weakest link in the skin so it tears away there. you can see that each corded area begins right on where a groove is/was.the 'pros' say you should use Rcomps for more than a few months or more than a few heat cycles and you need to store them in a cool nondry place, etc, etc. a set of falken azenis is sounding mighty good

yeah, i got a set of RA-1 R comps from fordHater brother for a killer price. ive heard about the life also. but man, for the price i got these, no need for heat cycles, they've got a good amount of tread, and after one event, i still think i can do another few more on these tires. but hopefully before the tires start to go out on me. but i tell you what, give those RA1s a try if you can get a set at a good price. but R comps are fun. did the tires ever give out on you on course (break traction and make you spin)?

doh, that should be 'should not' instead of should up there. lots of heat cycles are bad as is age. typo'd.^yeh i heard those are good, but i dunno. i doubt ill get any more r comps for a long time. too much money. and i'll be in a street tire class so we'll all be slow together
