fyi: the windows calculator can do this conversion

[edit] oh, and speaking of google, it can do conversions too put in "0b1011110101 in hex" as your search string

had the F5 part....how come you woudln't sign extend to get an E instead of a 2

there's no logical reason to sign extend unless you know this happens to be signed or 2's complement notaion. Otherwise, you should likely assume that the number is unsigned, and therefore the full binary number is
0010 1111 0101 = 2 F 5
