LOOK AT ME AMURRICA, I'M TYPING ON THE INTERNET
10/5/2005 6:54:25 PM
seriously. the bitch got hacked. he called the police, and they told him to call someone else. he goes nuts thinking that means that the "someone else" he is told to call is the person who put it in there. He then goes and calls that "someone else" and they don't have a single thing on it, so he assumes that that means they are doing something, when really it just means they don't have any information on it that is relevant to his request. But, they say "its exempt," in order to maintain deniability.and, this is all, of course, under the assumption that the guy is telling us the truth and didn't just send some crazy ass request for info on the stealth fighter and then post the rejection letter on the int4rweb while claiming it was a denial of a request for information about some random hack that someone purpetrated against him...

In other news, government watch dogs are suggesting that people stop saving their data. "Everything you type man... it's all there if you hit that save button."
10/5/2005 7:54:59 PM
This would suck if it were true.

you would think that some super duper extensive gov't conspiracy to snoop on our every move and invade our privacy would be able to better conceal its methods of snooping. I mean, jerry rigging every laptop made in such a way? Why not actually infiltrate the designers of laptops (you are super duper complex, and all. you should be able to) and covertly design it into the laptop seamlessly, so that even inspection of the laptop as described by this person (who somehow broke a PCMCIA card slot INSIDE his computer with only a short bit of use, too) would not yeild such an obvious connection...
10/5/2005 8:19:21 PM
pretty bogus story.
10/5/2005 11:28:19 PM
keystroke loggers exist, but the gubment aint using themhackers are

cool, a thread by salisburyboy with a title in all lowercase letters!

Salisburyboy, please go to snopes.com and reread whats been investigated. You shouldn't worry about keylogging, but rather security programs downloaded by mainstream software to verify the authenticity of said software. For instance, Blizzard's World of Warcraft scans and logs all open string values created and used by running processes.
10/6/2005 11:13:04 AM
seriously dude. http://www.snopes.com/computer/internet/dellbug.asphttp://juffo.org/stuff/keylogger/lol.htmlSame pics and everything. The words "Weekly World News" come to mind after reading this thread.

snopes is the final authority on ALL thingsit is the bibleLOL
10/6/2005 1:28:59 PM
Let me some it up for you:you have no rights.

That "article" on the Dell break apart is several months, if not a year old, at it was a proven fake BY THE AUTHOR himself. Not to mention if our computers were sending out information online without us knowing, it would be EXTREMELY easy for the user to detect.
10/6/2005 2:17:28 PM
somehow i knew snopes was gonna stomp on this thread eventually
10/6/2005 3:31:09 PM
u r an absolute fuckin moron for believing this shit. all this was debunked and proved a lie ages ago by the author who originally "proved it" and those who investigated it themselves. holy freakin christ, wake the fuck up and stop posting out of ur ass. ur like a fuckin child anymore.

I'd love to see the MASSIVE computer system that could handle, track, and sort the incoming traffic of every single keystroke made by every computer in the United States let alone the entire globe.
10/6/2005 3:59:47 PM
i'd also like to see a keylogger that could be hardwired into the ethernet controller and actually send any meaningful data without having to traverse the operating system...
10/6/2005 4:13:40 PM
it should scare you all, more than that, that keystroke-loggers can come in the form of simple computer-viruses!!it does not require hardwareIf keystroke logging becomes required by law on private computers, then we must start an other civil war...The government may not look in my computer, and that is final![Edited on October 6, 2005 at 8:52 PM. ^It would be scary, if it were true, but it's clearly not true in this case.Plus, such a device would be easy to bypass, and I can't see the gov. ever requiring loggers to be in HW, mandatory.Plus, as of yet, there's no viruses for Mac OS X, so i'm safe in that regard.

Snopes is run by the government to keep the masses pacified.
10/6/2005 9:33:13 PM
I can rewrite any program to look like any other type of program. viruses are even harder to detect.

unlike MECHANICAL ENGINEERING (your major), SOFTWARE ENGINEERING has no glass ceiling
10/6/2005 9:37:53 PM
if u say so bud
10/6/2005 9:42:41 PM
i meant, machines must obey the laws of physics, and software has no limits
10/6/2005 9:48:58 PM
Uhh, software cannot exceed the limitations of the machine it occupies, whether that machine is a single 8 bit micro or a vast network of a billion computers, it cannot exceed the available parts. For example, no amount of software can convince me that my computer is alive or start moving objects with telekinesis.
