I love my iBook...plus you can't beat it's portability (<5lbs) or $999 price with any pc

black friday is that day after thanksgiving when all the jews, arabs, azians, and indians come out of hiding to snag up the best deals

[Edited on October 5, 2005 at 3:45 PM. Reason : the ironic thing is that its "black" friday]

^^the price/portability is pretty nice (not that I could use an apple for anything other than fun)

what notebooks come close to that ratio at normal selling prices?

You may be right.

The lowest priced 12.1 inch Dell has is 1,150.

But then again it is more powerful than the iBook counterpart.

Whats interesting is if you go up to the 14" models, dell's go down in price by about 50% whereas the apple counterparts are more expensive.

The smaller ones are more expensive to make i suppose.

However its all moot since most smart shoppers jsut wait until Dell springs another deal and get the same 1,150 notebook for 750 or a more powerful one for the same price.

Love them - heard about it from a lawyer buddy of mine when I was going to B-School. Super light, bright screen, good support. At less than 4lbs, it's got every feature I could need.

Not cheap - but worth every stinking penny

the first black friday rumors are out and if the rumors are true, walmart is going to have an HP Pavilion laptop (HP Pavillion ze2308wm) for $399. google and amazon.com don't have any hits for this laptop so it must be a BF special. or maybe the rumor is bogus...

What do guys think about this notebook for basic operations like checking email, surfing the web, etc.?

I don't know much about Averatec or Mobile Athlon processors. I noticed that the cache is 512KB and I thought 2MB was pretty standard these days.
