10/5/2005 9:33:39 AM
hey dan let me know when you are planiing on going...i'd like to go too
10/5/2005 9:36:21 AM
if VIR wasnt the least useful website in history id be able to figure out something.. i cant find ticket sales anywhere even though the VIR400 page says you can buy tickets at virclub.com. garrfrom what i gather its $25 for Saturday (Grand Am cup race) and $40 for Sunday (Rolex Series race). or $50 for a 3 day pass, but thats too long. the gf has already limited this to a one day activity Does lauren want to go? thatd be more fun for priscilla i think. my friend PJ will probably come too.Oct 7-9th

10/5/2005 10:17:39 AM
blast. so that adds $10 to the price above. think they'll sell out?
10/5/2005 10:29:27 AM
doubt it... it's not like they're limited w/ spectator space at VIR
10/5/2005 10:31:07 AM
yeh thats true. what do ppl do? just wonder around and sit on a hill? i've only been once and my eyes were more focused on the track in front of me
10/5/2005 10:39:55 AM
i usually walk around and watch for a bit from different sections of the track... it's good to bring a bike... cause it's usually a long walk from one good spectator area to the next. last time i walked and it sucked. can't drive around cause all the parking space is packed. i also like to walk into the pits and watch the teams do pit stops... lots of stuff to learn, especially if you ever run endurance races! our pit stops always suck... we would have won our last two 3.5hr endurance races if we could have tightened up our pit stops!
10/5/2005 10:55:03 AM
cool, good idea w/ the bike. damn. does yoru team have a pro crew or is it volunteers? i've read a few things about joining SCCA and volunteering for pit crews, but i guess thats only at the SCCA level. what are you racing and w/ what team and what sereis, etc, etc? have a webpage?
10/5/2005 11:10:42 AM
i race in the mid-atlantic and south-east honda challenge series (http://www.hondachallenge.com) with NASA (http://www.nasaproracing.com). nasa mid-atlantic holds a 3.5hr enduro at VIR full every february... it's not just hondas... all makes and models. last enduro i ran with my brother and we just got a bunch of honda knowledgable friends to come help out. we ran the yellow integra #32 in my photos. in order to pit crew w/ SCCA you have to become an SCCA member (ghey). but i have done some crewing on an SCCA team for a 13hr and on my buddies speed world challenge team. i was planning on co-driving a bmw e30 at the SCCA 13hr at VIR full last october, but the car was totalled at watkins glen a week prior to the event...
10/5/2005 11:20:44 AM
thats pretty darn awesome. well crappy you couldnt drive the e30, but the rest is coo.how long have you been driving/tracking etc?I WANAN BE A RACE CAR DRIVER
10/5/2005 11:23:26 AM

10/5/2005 12:16:49 PM
10/5/2005 12:18:40 PM
do some of the alm drivers run in this series too cause..... cause i know a driver that is racing that usually rocks a c5r
10/5/2005 12:29:12 PM
Yeah the drivers in ALMS and Rolex do both if they get the opportunity and their contracts allow it. Teams are always looking for free help, especially the lower end teams. The best way to get in is to work crew. This way you get in for free and get free room and board for the weekend, but you got to bust your ass for at least 13 hrs a day throughout the weekend. Its too late anyways now to talk to teams though, but for those of you interested its a good idea to think about for next year.
10/5/2005 3:22:29 PM
that would be pretty cool. is there any training? how do i know i know what i need to know? i did replace two axles in our rally car in under.. id say 15 minutes. it was a proud moment.
10/5/2005 3:34:41 PM
you pretty much need to know your basic mechanical skillz. i highly doubt you are gonna be tearing shit apart for them. they juts need someone for basic help. maybe torquing lugs down, swapping pads, fluids or what not.its not like nascar pit crews
10/5/2005 3:51:12 PM
ah. but i assume its still pretty time critical eh? or is this more for in between practice/qualifying/race, etc? i guess my question is, is it high pressure?
10/5/2005 3:57:02 PM
well, i pitted for a speed world challenge race (did it with fordhater) and also for a honda challenge race.9one9 and i did a honda challenge race. it was pretty much checking tire pressures and heat and recording them. swapping wheels, filling gas tank, making sure pads are good and fluids are topped off. at one point the lug nuts snapped off, but that was taken care of. this wasnt really a high pressure race id say.the speed world challenge race, we had like 10 crew members or so. so there wasnt a lot of high pressure for one person. but the differece was that during the actual race, i was the fuel man, (all i could do was handle the gas tanks, needed full nomex suit and everthing), so that meant i couldnt help the team when we needed to swap a tire and the jack couldnt fit under the car. the rules stated i couldnt even touch the car, so there was one man short in trying to lift the car up. but i didnt wanna risk a disqualification, the driver understood. they teams can pretty much use all the help they can get, specially when you offer it without any payback, like food or money or stay. cuz thats like 2 free hands they can work with, hell you could wipe down the car before a race. and when you arent doing that you can always watch and learn.
10/5/2005 4:03:36 PM
i'm stoaked man i can't wait !
10/5/2005 5:33:53 PM
i doubt any grand am cup or rolex teams will need help... there is a mandatory pit stop for them, so they are going to have trained crews. and if they are looking for help, they usually get it all lined up early for them to show up a few days early to be "trained" on what they will be doing during the pit stop.but yes... the realtime tent was pimp! they need to come back to VIR! and i haven't talked to blake in forever... i think he fell off the face of the earth.
10/5/2005 5:45:57 PM
^ did you decide about the rock?

10/5/2005 8:06:07 PM
I ain't scurred Doesn't look like there's much run off room, hopefully nobody pulls a dale on lap 3.
10/5/2005 8:21:55 PM
this is nascar son! there's NO runoff room! ... na, there some once you're in infield T1, there's plenty thru T2-3 infield, just don't go off at the exit T3... T4 may be tricky if you get crossed up... and i saw a porshe about eat a wall coming onto the banking at nascar 4 from the infield... got on the gas too early and spun it towards the inside wall... the only real turn i was somewhat puckering on was nascar 1 and 2. the transition onto the infield isn't too bad... but it's tricky cuz it's all bumpy and crap[Edited on October 5, 2005 at 8:59 PM. I'll be up at VIR on Sunday. If anyone wants to ride up there together, I'm probably meeting up with a few people pretty early in the morning to head up there.

10/7/2005 3:28:23 PM
no shit... hard to spin out a fwd car
10/7/2005 5:58:06 PM
hard to spin in a rwd also if you know how to drive sir
10/7/2005 6:06:28 PM
its easy to spin out a FWD car. brake+turn at speed
10/7/2005 6:07:19 PM
i do know how to drive sir i'm just saying you don't have the problem of throttle induced oversteer.its easy to get excited when you see a hole and roll onto the gas a little hard a little early. but yeah i've never faced the wrong way on a track before.
