So are we going to finish out of last place? I've seen a few preseason games and nothing I saw gave me any more hope then all the preseason predictions. We look slow and horribly adjusted to the new rules. Too much side to side play and not enough up and down with the new rules. Gotta open it up a bit more..

Jagr better return to late 90's form for any chance of the playoffs I suppose..

** I don't care if non-hockey fans don't like this thread so troll away...

I haven't had the chance to catch any games yet (I'll get to watch Wednesday's since I'll be at my parents). I am very nervous that so much seems to hang on Jagr, and despite having a lot of young goalies in the system I'm pretty nervous about goaltending too. Seeing Weekes play for the Canes the past several years hasn't inspired a great deal of confidence.

Weekes is a hell of a lot better than the past few Rangers goalies (aside from Richter, of course).

Yea, weekes does look a whole lot better than dunham. Jagr has been putting up good numbers in the pre-season, averaging a couple points each game he has played. Alot of their players are from czech and russia so i think they are building a pretty fast team especially when they got rid of some of their bruisers like holik. They have a lot of potential prospects like al montoya and staal plus a couple of hard workers like ville niemenen and hossa that will hopefully lead them to the playoffs. Plus, ruchinsky and ortmeyer are looking pretty good. The only thing that comes close to the sadness of no nhl is another year of post season without the new york rangers chasing after the cup.

So Weekes is the #1 goalie? I had been wondering about that. I've been out of touch--who of note is left from the '03 team?

Well, if you're going to have all of your eggs in one basket, Jagr's a pretty sturdy basket. In his prime he was amazing, and he's definitely not done scoring yet. I don't really think all the eggs are in his basket, though. He, Straka, Kasparitis, and Rozsival all played together with the Pens when they consistently made the playoffs in the late nineties.

It's hard to say who will go where this year there's been so much shaken up. But as a Canes fan I have to ask myself "can a team really go wrong with Marek Malik on the roster?"

I wish I could be more of a Ranger's fan, but the last time I was in NYC the tickets at MSG were not exactly affordable.

Uh...

<3 Lundmark <3

Ok, that feels forced.

When did we pick up Straka and does that mean we'll have Lemieux and Kovalev soon?

We're doing the same thing to the mid-90s Penguins as we did to the mid-80s Oilers

Jagr looked friggin great. Straka looked pretty good. Weekes was farely sharp. I still don't think we have a great grasp of the new rules but the penalties were cut down after the midway point of the game.. overall it certainly exceeded my expectations for opening night.

Home opener tomorrow but I probably won't see it since I won't be at my apt w/ Center Ice.. oh well..

The reason why we won that game is we out worked the flyers. Work ethic is something previous ranger's teams have not had and that is why we haven't made the playoffs in a long time. I am excited to see the blueshirts this season and hopefully we will see them in the run for the cup.

Fuck the Rags. There I said it and Stein and I can go back to fighting.
Did you also notice how the Devils whooped the Rags two Tuesdays ago?

While I am still mourning the loss of our two Scottys and our coach I am confident that the Devils will perform at their usual exceptional level. The P.Flyers are looking mean though. They were like 6-1 in the preseason. Not bad for a bunch of goones.

The first Canes-Rangers game is Raleigh is Nov. 17th, a Thursday night. I'm already agonizing over which Rangers jersey to wear.

Here's to revenge on the Debbies tomorrow night!
