So cdubya posted:"I'm curious to hear what bullshit gripes you people have against mitsubishi..."This got me and him in a discussion. For my amusement, if you find me information from any reputable source that Mitsubishi has above average reliability (or even above average quality control) I will give you $10 via paypal or in person if you're local.Ahmet

I've rented one - seemed like a good basic car - but that's no gauge for long term reliability.

I have and still am considering an Evo. I will also admit I have not driven one as of yet. I do have some experience with Mitsu products however, and let's just say reliability has not been good. The one thing I like to pick on especially is that I've seen more spun bearings from Mitsubishis than every other brand I have experience with (to the factor of 5 or so). And I've never worked at a shop that didn't specialize on German cars. I've also never looked for work on a Mitsu, but offers come in with regularity...Nevertheless, I want concrete data, and I'll pay for it if anybody's got something credible.Ahmet

I know first hand 3000GT's (twin turbo models mainly) were the f'ing worst for spun rod bearings...I only spun 2 or 3 I think they finally got that semi-fixed after they added forged crankshafts and 4 bolt main blocks, but still those things get sketchy as hell by 100K miles[Edited on September 28, 2005 at 2:42 PM. how about you give us some credible info of why they're not reliable too?

hell, in general i always thought they were pretty reliable...only models i've really heard of having problems were the forced induction models of a few vehicles...obviously the dsm and vr4's. the dodge stealth i have was made by mitsubishi and has over 250K miles on it and never been worked on besides the clutch, and god knows i drive the absolute piss out of that thingi have no credible evidence, though

you're really doing something if you can hurt the bottom end of a 4g63.^^you just eluded to why mitsu has gotten a bad reliability rep, especially on internet message boards. the forced induction models are the ones people screw with, and guess what... 99% of people don't have a clue how to properly mod/tune one. car breaks, people bitch when it's really their fault. in the real world, mitsu has no more inherent problems or qc issues than any other manufacturer. they're not the best, but they're far from the worst.

Every shitty Mitsu I've ever seen was built in Normal, Illionois. My buddy's rear main oil seal went out at like 60k miles on his 2000 Eclipse. Why do you think I was asking in that other thread where Lancers were built? On the other hand, I've been pretty damn impressed with 3000GT's, especially the twin turbo models. Those motors seem to be able to take a beating. I mean I knew a guy who had 150k on his 91 Stealth and it still ran fine with a turbo upgrade. All the little stupid problems with the body don't seem as prevelant in those cars either--except the electronic suspension doesn't seem to last too long

^^ that was basically my point, ppl get 300hp+ out of a 3.0L engine then turn up the boost and don't do shit to tune it and want to bitch about it being unreliable and blame it on mitsubishi, even the stock HP #'s are pretty impressive..and reliable if you leave them alone

as long as you know and respect the 5 year rule, you should be ok
