Title says it. I've got a hard drive here (Maxtor 31024H1) which has an IC knocked off the board, and someone needs data off of it.Does anyone have a drive of this model or family (other model #s: 31024H1, 31535H2, 32049H2, 33073H3, 34098H4) that I can borrow to retrieve this?[Edited on September 27, 2005 at 5:43 PM. are you saying you've opened up the drive and exposed the platters, and you want to replace an IC on the controller board by opening up someone elses drive?ummmm.... unless you know a lot more about HDDs than I do (which is entirely possible) good luck getting any data off of either of those drives....

yeah, good luck with that...they usually come apart pretty easy, dunno how well swapping the 'platters' works though..

i dont see anything in his post that makes me think he exposed the platters at all...

The drive is not open. An IC on the bottom (the removable board) has been knocked off.

is the xbox maxtor 10gb part of this line? I want to say it is but I'm not sure.

if the data is that critical you'll buy another of the same drive to do what you need to do..doubt anybody will let you borrow a hard drive to take a circuit board off..

i have DONE THIS BEFORE and it works 100%. here's what you do (assuming non-OEM hard drive).issue an RMA for the drive (advance rma), get that drive, swap the circuitry, copy the data somewhere, swap the circuitry back, send in old hard drive, copying the data to new drive whenever.other than that ,buy the same HDD at best buy, then take back the bad one
