what's with those tubes across the road? i figure they're for measuring traffic, but i'm not sure.anyone know for sure (and isn't just guessing like i am)?
9/27/2005 12:58:53 AM
I thought they were like speed measurement things.
9/27/2005 1:04:16 AM
yes they are for measuring traffic volume
9/27/2005 1:08:05 AM
measures traffic.
9/27/2005 1:08:06 AM
i think it measures traffic volume. but im not sure
9/27/2005 1:16:07 AM
oh you know whatthose things are for measuring traffic volume
9/27/2005 1:23:25 AM
so is it ok to speed over them?
9/27/2005 1:25:02 AM
no, cuz it can calculate speed from your tire intervals and has a microscopic camera that takes a pic of you license plate
9/27/2005 1:27:09 AM
i think they measure traffic volume
9/27/2005 1:29:17 AM
midget cops on minibikes hide behind them
9/27/2005 1:37:35 AM
its the cable im stealin from my neighbor nigga
9/27/2005 1:48:12 AM
this thread gives me the lohls
9/27/2005 1:50:37 AM
They help RPD learn to divide by two.
9/27/2005 4:27:01 AM
if you steal one you can rewire it to open your garage like the bell they used to have at the grocery store
9/27/2005 7:59:27 AM
^^ you mean ncdot.
9/27/2005 8:59:35 AM
it counts how many cars go over itwhy they are doing this on western is beyond me, there is no room for more lanes and no other place for a stoplight, seems like a waste of time and effort...[Edited on September 27, 2005 at 9:57 AM. Reason : .]
9/27/2005 9:56:59 AM
eh, they could rip out the median for a new lane
9/27/2005 10:00:42 AM
what they do is count the number of cars that drive over them, therefore they tell you traffic volume
9/27/2005 10:09:06 AM
9/27/2005 10:11:01 AM
wow, that makes a lot of sense, thanks for the explanation
9/27/2005 10:18:44 AM
left turn from gorman to Western def. needs more time sometimes.. maybe a sensor to see how long the left turn queue is, if there are such sensors
9/27/2005 10:20:59 AM
They need to improve Dan Allen traffic flow. I lost track of the number of times I had a green arrow to make a left from Hillsborough and couldn't do it because Dan Allen was constipated.
9/27/2005 11:11:32 AM
They're full of frozen water. The cars drive over them thus creating crushed ice. I believe that they belong to Snoopy's.
9/27/2005 11:21:52 AM
9/27/2005 11:26:31 AM
^the single ones do.the sets of two measure speed and volume so they know if it could be a future speed trap.
9/27/2005 6:01:08 PM
^ no.usually they run one all the way across teh road and one halfway. that way they can tell how many cars are going each direction.[Edited on September 27, 2005 at 6:58 PM. Reason : -]
9/27/2005 6:57:44 PM
the ones around here go to cookout.
9/27/2005 7:58:39 PM
9/27/2005 8:45:28 PM
^^^yes, they do. they measure the time it takes to travel from one sensor to the next which then calculates the vehicles speed.
9/28/2005 9:39:04 PM
holy shit already, traffic volume it is...........or maybe it IS crushed ice........hmmmmmmmm
9/28/2005 9:56:05 PM
I believe they measure traffic volume.
9/28/2005 10:00:22 PM
they check your licence plate when you drive over them and police come after you if there's a warrant on you or the car is stolen, etc. by finding you using special RPD algorithms for traffic discovery.
9/28/2005 11:08:12 PM
they dont measure speed or the placement (spacing) would have to be EXACT. the closer they are together, the more precise the placement would have to be. have you ever noticed how they are usually just taped down in the middle of the lane and on the yellow lines.
9/28/2005 11:42:01 PM
9/29/2005 1:09:56 AM
you dumb shits. listen to scotty
9/29/2005 1:28:03 AM
Their purpose is to fuck with your head. It's working.
9/29/2005 1:34:57 AM
I think they use them, among other things, to calibrate gas prices. I notice that whenever they are building a new gas station anywhere, they put those things out.
9/29/2005 3:27:25 AM
there's a whole lot of "i think"... who among you knows for sure? also, *how* do they measure? is it the air depression? if there are two going across two lanes to measure one direction and another, how do they tell when it's coming from one end or the other?shit i saw some dude laying one earlier today at lunch. i should've questioned him.
9/29/2005 3:52:05 AM
I think, therefore I am./existentialism
9/29/2005 5:20:47 AM
they couldn't measure speed, they would have to know what kind of vehicle it is that's driving over the tubes and the wheelbase to figure that out.
9/29/2005 9:28:36 AM
1 line - volume2 line - speedIf you speed over a two line, your basically asking for some kind of "speed control" measure, such as a speed bump/hump, increased patrol, or more signage
9/29/2005 9:30:56 AM
shutup, the dot does not use those to measure speed. the only purpose they serve is to gather adt info.
9/29/2005 9:34:57 AM
9/29/2005 9:45:16 AM
i think they might be to measure traffic volume
9/29/2005 9:49:41 AM
9/29/2005 10:25:31 AM
well, you know, i've read that they are used to measure traffic volume
9/29/2005 10:34:50 AM
.[Edited on September 29, 2005 at 11:04 AM. Reason : .]
9/29/2005 11:04:29 AM
they measure traffic volume, and there is a sensor farther down in gorman street, if it is backed up farther than the mckimmon center it stays green longer, or that may just be during rush hour(s)
9/30/2005 11:10:20 AM
signal timing & recall have nothing to do with the tubes across the street
9/30/2005 1:56:20 PM
i dont think he was talking about the tubes.. he was talking about a sensor in the asphalt
9/30/2005 2:09:21 PM
