Is there a way to do this? I have a sound recorder set up to record some radio shows coming down a stream, but I don't want my computer to just start blaring the streams and surprise people... including myself.I've already tested it, and there's no problem recording internally while the sound card is muted (obviously), so I just need to tell the computer when to be muted and when to come back to unmuted state again.Anyone know of any solutions? I've googled, but I can't find what i'm looking for. surely this exists somewhere

turn off your speakers when you are away from your computer.

ok, that's cute, but obviously that's not what i'm looking for. you can forget to turn off your speakers, and not only that, but i'm quite forgetful.anyway I found a solution already.http://www.grc.com/wizmo/wizmo.htm

If you just set mute on your volume control it should still record sound from either your sound card or any audio programs using your sound card.[Edited on September 27, 2005 at 12:12 AM. Reason : blach]

yeah, i know. that's exactly what I already said. I knew it would do that, but I don't want my computer to be constantly muted, and I wanted it to be done automatically for me, because otherwise I'll forget to do it myself

You could use Macro Express to set a macro to do it at specific times.
