I have a 97 jeep wrangler with a 2.5L 4 cylinder and it wont pass inspection because the check engine light is on. So i had a diagnostics test run earlyer today and the code came up pspps (power steering pump pressure sensor). Well i have since called napa, auto zone, and advanced auto. No one ever keeps this part. What the hell am i supposed to do. I have untill the end of month to get it inspected. And i dont know where to get this part. Any info would be appreciated.

YOu have until the end of the month while the inspection is due, or you have until the end of the month before you hit that 6 month period afterwards where they fine you $250?

Why in God's name does a power steering pump pressure sensor flag an OBDII error code? This is a new one on me, though I don't know as much about OBDII as I would like.Go to the dealer. They'll have what everybody else doesn't.
9/23/2005 10:34:09 PM
i'd suggest going to the dealership and ordering the part if you want to get ass raped on the price or just have napa or advance auto order it...you just said they didnt keep it in stock, that doesn't mean they can't get itOH SHIT, THAT WAS A HARD ONEand, i've had one vehicle inspected in 6 years... it'll be aight
9/23/2005 10:34:29 PM
Did u try the Jeep Dealership?
9/23/2005 10:34:58 PM
if you know of any jeep forums, someone on there might be able to point you to a better parts source.
9/23/2005 11:10:06 PM
just go to morgans and get the part if there isnt actually anything wrong with your PS system
9/23/2005 11:40:44 PM
are you even sure it's a bad part? the error code says it come from the PS pressure sensor, but is the problem a bad sensor or a problem in the system causing the sensor to flag an error. replacing a sensor when there is something else wrong is only going to empty your pocket.

if the pressure sensor in the power steering pump is going off, could it be an overfilled/underfilled power steering resevoir?
9/24/2005 12:59:00 PM
just take the bulb out for the "check engine" warning on you dash
9/24/2005 1:48:23 PM
that will make him pass inspection
9/24/2005 1:48:58 PM
done it.

Not on OBD-II you didn't.[Edited on September 24, 2005 at 2:27 PM. Reason : unless you are in a non-emissions county]

doesn't matter if they look at it or not, the OBD2 can tell the bulb was taken out.And after 6 months or whatever you will get a fine unless you write them. There is no way around it, the system automatically mails you a letter.
9/24/2005 2:58:40 PM
Even if the bulb is overlooked, OBD2 can monitor whether or not the MIL or SES light has been commanded on.

Diggler has a napoleon complex. he's not even five foot tall. I think I'm gonna choke a bitch.

I bet diggler is just a trolling nigger anyway. A gay one at that, you goddamned wal-mart carolina retard.
9/24/2005 4:26:07 PM
scotty, shut up.
9/24/2005 5:07:04 PM
if it will cost you more than 250 dollars in parts and labor you can probably get a waiver.i had a check engine light on too thankfully my friendly neighborhood volvo tech was able to clean out the EGR system of my 96 mazdalub that dude

A power steering pressure switch can't be much more than about 30 bucks.
10/4/2005 7:27:16 AM
or try to bypass the sensor.
10/4/2005 8:49:13 AM
poe is the first one to get it. it's not a sensor it's a switch, and unless it's just unplugged or the wiring is bad, the switch needs to be replaced.like everyone else said, try some more parts stores like carquest or the dealer.
10/4/2005 2:19:04 PM
NAPAECH-OP6763$31.99
10/4/2005 3:57:19 PM
i'm pretty sure i had to replace that part. got it at jeep and it was around 30 bux as said before. get the part. switch the switches, ur done! it's not hard and the switch is there to up the idle when turning at idle, or else the little 2.5 will stall. pretty sure that's how it goes.
10/4/2005 7:06:32 PM
i have never failed an inspection b/c my engine light was on
10/4/2005 7:51:31 PM
And you probably drive something older than '96 (when OBDII laws came into effect).
10/4/2005 8:05:27 PM
and you are? get the fuck out of here boy until you know what youre talking about
10/4/2005 8:05:44 PM
DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY, LET SIT FOR 5 MIN, CONNECT AGAIN AND 60% OF THE TIME THESE CELS WILL GO AWAY ON OBD2.
10/4/2005 8:09:00 PM
i did that on mine, hoping it wouldn't throw the code again, but with that switch, when they go, they go. he just needs to get a new one and he'll be fine. keb, you fail....inspection wise that is, if your mil (malfuntion indicator light) is on, you won't pass on a 97 or newer vehicle.
10/4/2005 8:51:46 PM
just slip the inspection guy a 20, thats what i did to pass inspection
10/4/2005 8:57:26 PM
that's another good solution my ebrake is worthless, i've never done that......noooooo
10/4/2005 9:04:00 PM
even the slickest inspector cant pass an OBDII car that fails readiness check.
10/4/2005 9:12:55 PM
you would have to be able to do some hardcore computer design and programming to be able to beat the odbII inspection system. basically a shop would have to build a car "emulator" to hook up to the inspection computer with programmable vins and streaming data and whatnot
10/5/2005 8:20:18 AM
I've had my Jeep registered for like a year and a half and still haven't got it inspected. I just got a notice from the DMV that I have until the end of December or I'm out 250 bucks. No where near legal so I am trying to figure out something. oh well, not sure why I chimed in other then the fact that I am bored out of my mind and had nothing better to do.
10/6/2005 3:22:51 PM
Just curious...can your vehicle fail inspection if your engine is a bit shaky?
10/24/2005 4:46:00 PM
10/24/2005 5:20:22 PM
gargs.............really now.........stfu
10/24/2005 5:35:32 PM
how does the late fee thing work if the vehicle becomes unregistered, my bronco's inspection is overdue, but im getting ready to turn in the tag, my insurance is about to run out and im not going to pay it since i wont be moving the vehicle most likely until next summerwill they still try to stick me with some sort of ridiculous fee?
10/24/2005 5:55:49 PM
Its all run by the DMV. Take the letter in with you when you turn in the tags and you should be good.
10/24/2005 6:28:18 PM
10/24/2005 6:59:16 PM
that's the reason the inspection guy gave me when his stupid machine wouldn't work.
10/24/2005 7:09:02 PM
10/24/2005 7:16:56 PM
you are not the lucky1 this timehaha i lol'd myself
10/24/2005 8:26:36 PM
Here's another inspection question, if anyone knows the answer. If the switch that turns your headlights on is broken, but you can use a coat hanger to turn them on, will that cause you to fail?
10/25/2005 6:14:50 PM
honestly, what do you think?
10/25/2005 6:21:34 PM
hahaa yeah coat hangers are definitely a passing solution
10/25/2005 6:22:46 PM
