thinking dell but i've never had one before. i hear the customer support sucks. those of you that have or have had one what are your impressions? also is there an easy and cost-efficient way to transfer large portions of my old hard drives to my new comp.?

in my opinion, the dell tech support is pretty good, i'd take the route if i were buying a new pc. Thinkpads are pretty decent also, they'll cost you a bit more, but in my experience, they've got decent longevity with a relatively low amount of problems. As far as transfering your data, chcek out tiger direct on capital and pick up one an IDE to USB converter. It'll run you $20, your comp reads the hard drive as a mass storage device, its drag and drop from there. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1225711&CatId=470

if you want a employee discount on a IBM thinkpad PM MiniMe_877. He might be able to hook you up.

well i'm thinking about getting a desktop actually and looking on IBM's website I only see 3 different kinds. the reason i was kind of drifting towards a dell is because i customize it more, but they look more expensive. would you still recommend one of these think center's to a dell dimension 5100?

you should be able to customize the IBM desktops as well

yeah i see where they let you do that too now. i don't use my computer for games, but i do listen to music and watch movies on it. the one i have right now (not in front of me at the moment) goes real slow sometimes when i run to many programs. with that in mind how much total memory would you recommend me getting?

Keep an eye on slickdeals.net for good Dell coupons.NEVER buy a Dell without at least one internet coupon, sometimes more. You can rack up big savings that way.And Dell support is fine, just use email b/c text can't have an Indian accent.

don't buy IBM desktops. you can get an equivelent dell for much less. if it's a laptop, thinkpads are awesome, but there's nothing really to justify the premium on IBM desktops for most people.as per the suggestion of the guy above, check these places for periodic couponshttp://www.slickdeals.nethttp://www.techbargains.com[Edited on September 21, 2005 at 3:42 PM.
