Like clean room style.

My buddy had a kid drop his lappy, the harddrive was spinning, but wasn't writing. The good old IBM notebook drive is now dead and he needs his data. Ideas on where to send it?

Even if it wasn't writing the heads could have still nailed the platters.

Call IBM. They use their own TravelStar line of drives so they would be the people to contact. Recovery of data off of a completely inoperable drive could be very costly.

Its a company laptop, so data recovery is crucial since they had a horrid backup routine.

clean room recovery is around $300-400/hr
