Have any of you guys installed nitrous before? I have a good idea of what to do and how to do it, but would like someone whos done it before to help.

direct port? wet or dry? any special hardware or just lines, solenoid, and tank?

whats it going in, what are you wanting it to do, what other mods (safety as well as performance), etc have you done?

^^^ hehe... i put a similar comment on another forum and the guy was like totally clueless...

This is a NOS wet kit going in a VR4. The car already has a hotwired uprgraded fuel pump and 720cc injectors, so it should have plenty of fuel.

I have had a direct port wet system installed on my car and would be more than willing to help you out. Let me know what Q's you got, I'll send ya a pm if you need to contact me so you dont have to deal with these forum wankers giving you shit.-B

What is it that you want to know? The nozzle goes in front of your TB and the rest can be wherever you want. Make sure you have a WOT switch and a window switch. For something more car specific you might want to try 3si.org
9/13/2005 4:41:39 PM
john, seriously, nos on the A4?
9/13/2005 4:54:01 PM
Somebody told him he doesn't need a window switch. I think that's fucking retarded, especially since he runs 25+psi on alky injection...
9/13/2005 4:54:53 PM
Ray you seriously dont know shit. I dont even know why you would try and respond to this thread take your 150rwhp elsewhere.

A window switch is a must IMO. Also on the list for "have to have" are: bottle heater, fuel pressure safety switch, purge, pressure gauge, power switch, and a seperate activation switch. That is the surest way to be safe. With a fuel injected car, a TPS sensor activation switch is a must. I had one on my Stang in conjunction with a window switch. I ran over 36 ten pound bottles through my 160,000 mile notch and it never flenched.
9/13/2005 6:02:57 PM
a window switch is unnecessary if proper tuning is done. a hobbs switch run to your nitrous solenoid or just a manual solenoid will work just fine. a WOT switch is also unnecessary.
9/13/2005 6:06:21 PM
replace "proper tuning is done" with "you aren't a fucking moron that likes to hold down the button while idling or something"tuning is important regardless, window switch just helps you not fuck up[Edited on September 13, 2005 at 6:11 PM. Reason : a]

I am going to have a window switch. I dont want to hit that limiter sprayin.
9/13/2005 7:25:12 PM
ok Diggler I'll bite. what exactly is the issue with running nitrous without a window switch? what's so dumb about running off a manually actuated or pressure actuated solenoid?
9/13/2005 8:08:24 PM
whole point of the window switch is to prevent human error. It makes sure that the nitrous is only sprayed between certain RPM's obviously. In the heat of the moment you could accidently get on it at too low or too high RPM, meaning you'll get nitrous backfire (nitrous pools and catches fire) or hit the rev limiter. I wouldn't want to hit the rev limiter while under boost and spraying...A WOT switch is also to prevent human error. You could get nitrous backfire too if you hit a button or flip a switch at the wrong moment. You could technically get away without any of the safety stuff mentioned here but it's risky. How much would a good kit with all the pieces cost either whole, or if bought piece by piece?I believe wet kits are more reliable, and safer correct?I have been toying with the idea of spraying the maxima, till it finally dies that is, something like a 75 shot or so.

a hobbs switch or a manual solenoid will provide the same effects. a hobbs switch can shut it off at a certain manifold or boost pressure if you feel the need to have a safety or you can just know when to press/hold the switch on the solenoid. it's really not that complicated and if you're putting nitrous in your car, one would hope you could manage to operate simple controls well enough not to destroy your car.
9/13/2005 11:02:50 PM
Again, obviously you have never dealt with nitrous before. Just stop trying to sound smart.

hey man, i just wanted to know scrager if you could put some power nitrous window switches in my 2000 saturn dUde
9/13/2005 11:49:21 PM
sure, but it's gotta have a height switch and limit switch. i guess you could call it a window switch, but people might think that's cliche
9/13/2005 11:54:33 PM
how about weight limit switches so my car will bitch at me about losing weight when I bitch at it about getting more mpg
9/14/2005 12:05:25 AM
I'm with Diggler - window switch is necessary when the factory rev-limiter cuts fuel. I sprayed ~15 bottles of a large shot in my car and never had a problem or a back fire through the intake. I'd also make sure to use a soft touch ignition rev-limiter set below factory's. If you're doing any pcm tuning have the stock limiter moved all the way up just to make sure (if you have aftermarket limiter). If your fuel system is adequate and you'll be tuning the nitrous on a dyno so you know its has fuel there is no need for a hobbs switch. I never used it. Also, with a wet kit make sure to wire both solenoids on the same circuit so you know the fuel will always open. I'd definately recommend a bottle heater as well, not just for consistency but safety since fluctuations in bottle pressure directly affect a/f ratio. I've installed nitrous on my car and one other and will install your's for $200 over a weekend, I'd like to help you out but i hate working on cars unless $ is involved. Most importantly, take your time, follow the instructions closely, and make sure the fuel solenoid is opening before you go out and spray it the first time(make sure the bottle is closed or the line is unhooked at the nozzle when you do this so you don't fill the intake with nitrous). Its not hard just takes time to do a good job and make sure everything is right.
