i just wanted an oil change, but he charged me to change some sort of fucking filter what the fuck? do they do that a lot?
9/9/2005 4:48:45 PM
yes
9/9/2005 4:50:25 PM
oil filter? should do that once every one or two oil changes or so.
9/9/2005 4:53:29 PM
yeah the oil filter. they have tried to replace that shit like 5 times now, and i just want a damn oil chance
9/9/2005 4:59:25 PM
are you serious, or is this some lame joke?
9/9/2005 5:01:15 PM
i was alwasy told that when they try to give you shit you don't ask for it's a scam, especially at jiffy lube
9/9/2005 5:01:53 PM
gotta be a fucking joke...
9/9/2005 5:03:38 PM
watch out for the 710 cap
9/9/2005 5:08:09 PM
what in the fuck?
9/9/2005 5:52:51 PM
i dont even know what the fuck to say to this thread
9/9/2005 6:12:07 PM
ahahahhahhhaa
9/9/2005 6:14:09 PM
you change the filter with every oil change.
9/9/2005 6:22:08 PM
filters will last two oil changes, esp. to the fuckers that insist on changing every 3K miles or whatever ridiculously low number they're still using from the 70's. i go more like 7-10K tho so i change it everytime, and it should be included in any "oil change" in my opinion, but i've never been to jibby lube
9/9/2005 6:27:17 PM
9/9/2005 6:27:36 PM
he was jokinghe failed
9/9/2005 6:45:55 PM
^^Why don't you just change the filter every 3-4 k miles? It only costs like 3 bucks.
9/9/2005 7:21:50 PM
I actually change my filter more often than my oil
9/9/2005 7:24:46 PM
if ever a thread needed lockage
9/9/2005 7:25:02 PM
the filter needs to be change more often than the oil
9/9/2005 7:25:23 PM
you people are muslim
9/9/2005 7:28:51 PM
9/9/2005 8:33:51 PM
I change my oil and filter every 3k because the turbo tends to cook it bad.
9/9/2005 9:02:18 PM
I just use a synthetic.
9/9/2005 9:27:40 PM
And you should just have them run your old oil through a pair of your mom's pantyhose. That new shit is a fucking gyp anyway.
9/9/2005 9:33:50 PM
changing oil is a big scam, run that shit till your engine blows and youll see, itll go like 1,000,000 miles
9/10/2005 8:41:20 AM
9/10/2005 9:58:40 AM
if you're paying the $ for k&n, you might as well use a nice wix filter or napa gold.k&n is a waste, unless you race and need the welded nut on the end.[Edited on September 10, 2005 at 3:09 PM. Reason : eh]
9/10/2005 3:08:33 PM
well, for whatever reason I always have higher oil pressure with the K&N so I just keep using them...oh well, whatever. 180K miles now and its still going strong
9/10/2005 3:38:25 PM
flow is what you should be concerned about... more pressure isn't always a good thing.
9/10/2005 4:30:37 PM
since pressure is measured towards the top of these engines, my logic is higher pressure pretty much has to be from more volume
9/10/2005 4:40:09 PM
could be, but it doesn't really matter where the reading is taken. if the filter is more restrictive, you're going to see a pressure increase no matter where the sending unit is. usually more flow=less pressure if all things stay the same (pump, etc.).
9/10/2005 4:44:14 PM
On Bob and Tom they were doing ads for NAPA and their motor oil. Chick said that he "would change his oil everytime he got gas" as a joke and they ended up getting hatemail because of that.
9/10/2005 5:34:54 PM
oil filter should be changed with oil. it's standard procedure and cheap.
9/10/2005 7:06:18 PM
bunch of fuking idiots in here. any real mechanic knows to change oil and oil filter every 3 to 3500 miles. dont care if you have some gay moble one 123,432 mile oil in your car. its wrong. would a real human go with out showering for two weeks. no take one everyday. fucking idiots
9/12/2005 8:01:33 PM
i change mine every 5k. full synthetic.
9/12/2005 8:33:21 PM
9/12/2005 8:45:52 PM
im going to test my amsoil at 5k and at 10k to see what happens. you DEFINATELY do not need to changy any modern synthetic any sooner than 5k.
9/12/2005 8:49:58 PM
^ how can you make a blanket statement like that without knowing what kind of engine it is being used in and what kind of duty it is doing?
9/12/2005 8:53:41 PM
^that is true^^ and that also is true for nearly all normal street vehicles that are driven in semi-normal temperatures and halfway sanely.regardless, have the shit checked and let us know, i'm tired of arguing about this 3K miles shit
9/12/2005 8:59:29 PM
i autox every month, ill have a couple HPDEs on this oil, and generally tear my car up and i'm still not changing it for 10k. i'm gonna personally bust this myth.
9/12/2005 9:04:43 PM
go for it jimbo
9/12/2005 9:20:03 PM
my oil changes itself.. it lets itself out and i just have to refill every so often
9/12/2005 10:15:30 PM
hehe
9/12/2005 10:16:42 PM
i kinda dread changing the oil on the bonneville. IIRC the 3.8 filter location is a bitch
9/12/2005 10:24:52 PM
I'll do it for 40 bucks.
9/12/2005 11:18:34 PM
what a great deal! can you just pour out the old filter and stick it back on?
9/13/2005 6:54:14 PM
9/13/2005 9:46:49 PM
Guys, how often does your car manufacturer recommend you to change your oil/filter?Acura recommends 7.5k for oil, 15k for filter for my car. Recommends 5w-30 just about all the time, not synthetic. But, if you drive in one or more of these conditions most of the time: Trips of less than 5 miles (less than 10 in freezing weather) Extremely hot weather (over 90 degrees F) Extensive idling or stop-and-go driving Trailer towing, car-top carrier, or mountain driving Muddy, dusty, or de-iced roadsDouble it up. 3.75k for oil, 7.5k for filter.Oil companies want to sell oil, car manufacturers want to avoid warranty repairs.
