I told my friend that I think a race war is coming and I might be right, because niggers are pissed off now. Goddamn hip hop agitators are making it worse than it has to be.

Ignorance

The bash on Bush is just a small part of the song, it doesn't characterize it. Mos Def would be remiss as an activist-rapper if he didn't put that in there.

Isn't Mos Def one of the cities on Tatooine?

The fact that he's dissing Bush is missing the main point: with a few exceptions (like the Bling Bling Era), rap has always been anti-establishment. Rap has become the new Rock in this area. While rock has become more corporatized following the end of grunge (Pearl Jam is the sole exception, so, I don't want to hear it), rap has remained an in-your-face musical genre that blasts whoever is in charge of whatever established office they see as a malfeasance. This is even though the hip hop culture is starting to become more corporatized itself. As far as a race war, unless anyone in Vegas putting money on Al-Qaeda to win the WOT, it would be in this country's second-worst interest for us to go that route (the only worse thing is that Red-Blue Civil War some culture warriors keep bringing up). Katrina may be a divisive issue, but an all-out racial discontent that would make the late '60s look is very unlikely.

2Pac dissed him on How Do U Want It...i mean basically any rap song from 1992 to 2000 probably bashed Clinton...and 92-00 was the golden age of rap...hmmmm...apparently when Clinton is president, he motivates rappers to be at their best...hmm
