I have tried to figure out the best way of emailing bulk to customers, friends,etc....

Would you go for website based or own computer program.....

Would you install an email server in your computer so you dont get the problems associated with sending to another server (overload) ....?

Please help!

Thanks

R.

either option you choose, you're fuxxed unless you know what you're doing

route 1: do it yourself
say you purchase a mail server like alt-N's mDaemon and install it on your PC. someone has already done this before you using your ISP and so your entire IP range is already blacklisted on several major RBLs so by the time you configure it and send out your spam, mail servers on the receiving end already either mark your message as spam and deliver it to the user's junk folder or reject it altogether. the way around this is to use an intricate network of proxies so the sending IP seems to be a clean one. but if you're asking a question like this, i'm sure you don't know how to do something like that and the chances of you having that kind of access are slim.

route 2: go through a hosting company
most legit hosting companies monitor e-mail traffic especially for new accounts so if you tried this, and they caught you, your plug would be pulled very quickly. say you found a hosting company that didn't care though, or that was made for spammers. then you face the same problem above - blacklisted IPs. most hosting companies do care though because they have to hear the complaints from users whose legit mail is rejected as well as server admins and then they have to go through the hassle of contacting the RBL owners to get their blacklisted IPs cleared from the list, etc.

so basically, don't bother unless it's to a small distribution list of friends and family. in which case, you can set up a yahoo group or just bcc everyone.

There's a company that will handle it for you. It's owned by a 21yrold kid from UNC I met a few years back.

http://groups.google.com/

step 1) create a group
step 2) add your current email list to the group
step 3) there is no step 3

^^ alright, whatever.
With Google (or Yahoo) Groups, though, you can create a group and add people to it, then email a fully HTML formatted message to the group address, and it will get redistributed to the entire group, formatting and all. They will see their own name in the To box and your name in the From field - what's unprofessional about that? Apart from the initial addition to the group, they don't even have to know you are using a Google Group.

if you don't like that suggestion, just google "mass email" or "email lists" and you'll get dozens of "professional" ones that you can wow your clients with.....

if it's voluntary, any hosting company can do mailing lists for cheap.
but if you don't mind a little ad, yahoo/google groups will work.
