Hey, Does anyone know of any mail-order catalogs that sell parts for Mitsubishi Eclipses that are like Year One or whatnot? I just need stock replacements and it's easiest for me to just leaf through a catalog vs. browse tons of pages online.thanks!natalie

Just tell us the year of your car and the parts you're looking for.

depending on the year I could probably find it in CAPS for you, or just send you CAPS.

i need like...an ashtray, lol and the little silver circular mitsubishi thing that goes in the center of the wheel...its like, plastic i guess and silver. sorry i sound like such an idiot about cars, yeah, go figure, stereotypical girl, but hey give me credit. i can change a fanbelt, a flat, my oil, check my oil and drive stick while wearing 4 inch heels. I think I need some other stuff too...I cant remember off the top of my head.it's an 03 eclipse gt. ooh yeah, my service engine light came on today and i read the owner's guide and it said it might be because the gas cap is not tightened...i checked and it wasnt, so i tightened it, but the light still won't go out. I know it comes on a lot for everyone in every car for BS reasons so how do i know if i should take it in or not?thanks for being soo helpful! -Natalie

Take it to Autozone, they'll use an OBD2 scanner and read what code it is throwing for you. For the stock parts, ebay.PS: I have not seen any catalogs similar to Year One for any Mitsubishi. The best places are the online venders. I don't really know anything about that in regards to 2000 and newer Eclipses, sorry.[Edited on September 6, 2005 at 1:23 AM. Reason : ]

any idea what the chassis number is? if you can find it (my car is D27A just as an example) I can look the part numbers up with CAPS and you can take those to the dealer or NAPA. also, if you don't like these little bullshit problems, especially on such a new car, you might consider selling and never buying another mitsu again. for the most part they're junk, they're really only valued by a handful for their power potential.. which unfortunately yours lacks. hey, atleast your valve stem seals aren't leaking yet

post your picture. It helps us better evaluate your worth as a human being

Your manual should state that "check engine" light maybe caused by a loose gas cap, not "service required" or "service engine" lights are usually on a timer, and don't have much to do with anything else."Fan belt"s differ from car to car, and your particular car does not have one.Ahmet

yeah i got it check by my mechanic and it was just that the gas cap was loose and he had to delete it from the system was all. *whew* i was getting scared i'd have to have it in the shop for a while and that would suck since i commute from Durham everyday and I'd have to take my old car (which does have a fanbelt..the one i fixed before ) and I think I would most likely die driving it on I-40...I have the Vanilla Ice mustang, the white 1990 LX convertible. not the 5.0 though. trying to sell it if anyone is wanting one, or knows of anyone, PM me.i still can't figure out where to find those minor replacements for my car. I like my Eclipse, its a definite step up from my Mustang, but there's a lot I don't like. Even though it says premium recommended, I still put it in so I take care of the engine. The turning radius is shit. I don't really like the ergonomics of the dashboard...I'm only 5'4'' so you'd think it would be worse for a tall person, but everything just feels uncomfortable. Gas mileage is decent for the commute..about 25mpgI'm trying to decide on what I should get next, even though I just got this in May. My mom thinks I should trade it in while it's still worth something, so I'm thinking maybe a Jetta, an RSX or a BMW 325ci convertible...and older one mind you (like 5 years or so). Other than that I'm kind of an open book about it...I want something decently priced, pretty new and sporty. Any suggestions? -Natalie

If you want to get rid of that car do it soon soon soon... Mitsu's have no resale value.
9/6/2005 2:47:18 PM
A loose gas cap will trigger a "check engine" light on any OBDII vehicle. This is mandated by the government, manufacturers are not allowed to use a different light, for example "service engine". They're not the same, check engine light will come on for problems relating to emissions. Incorrect gas tank pressure is considered emission related. I would wager that either you're making a mistake or your mechanic is not being truthfull. I would also imagine that the light was on for something minor, and he may have erased the code from memory, etc. That's all kosher with me.I would recommend a BMW 325, I think they're great cars.Ahmet

well, actually, i was just looking in my owner's booklet and it says that when that light comes on in the dashboard, depending on the specific model of the car, it will either say SERVICE ENGINE SOON or CHECK ENGINE and in my car, it says Service Engine Soon, not Check Engine. SO it basically is the same thing anyways, and my mechanic couldn't have possibly duped me or have been lazy, since he is related to me and all...But I mean, since I am a girl and all I obviously know absolutely nothing about cars and must be a complete idiot to mistake a check engine light for a service engine one when the repair booklet states that it's the same damn thing...*shrugs*

hahah... good thread

I don't know how else to put this, your gas cap should cause a (standard) "check engine" light, as mandated by the government. Specific manufacturers are not allowed to deviate from this to the best of my knowledge. Your car is REQUIRED (by law) to have a light labeled check engine. "Service Required" or similar lights are up to the manufacturer. I'm not saying your mechanic duped you, nor am I saying you're mistaken since you're a girl. What I am saying is that a loose gas cap will cause a "check engine" light. Ahmet

here it states that the light will say check engine or service engine sooni dont think that the epa would fuck around with this infohttp://www.epa.gov/orcdizux/regs/im/obd/basic.htm

I stand corrected. I have never seen an OBD II vehicle with a variation of the "check engine" light. I should not have assumed that the OBD II system exclusively triggered a specific light. "Service engine" lights on the vast majority of cars I've seen don't have anything to do with data collected from any sensors (save for newer high end Benzes and the like). Anyway, I apologize for the misinformation there.I've worked as a mechanic, I've restored/track prepped several cars. However my automotive knowledge in large part stems from my interest/experience with Porsches and motorsports. I also have a fetish of researching things I'm interested in... Ahmet
