Lets actually keep this semi serious..1. Clean your air filter2. Don't accelerate to quickly 3. Try to keep a constant speed4. Maintain your car5. Carpool6. Fuel Injector Cleaner, not sure if it works, but eh.7. Cut back on AC

Yes, bike, walk, public transport etc are good options, but if you have to drive, at least drive with common sense.btw..Anyone with knowledge know if those fuel injector cleaners actually work?

A good fuel injector cleaner is Redline Fuel System Cleaner. It actually works unlike the "Jet Fuel" STP stuff you can get from Wal-Mart. You can also just put a can of SeaFoam in your gas tank, but you should probably change your fuel filter after your next fill up. Changing your fuel filter might help fuel mileage as well as changing the PCV valve.

i've seen some things that say not to accelerate or brake to quickly... how is braking hard bad on fuel mileage?
9/2/2005 8:53:01 PM
^I guess the theory is the more you slow down the more you have to speed up... but if its meaning slowly slow down before stop lights that you're going to have to stop at anyways, then thats just retarded
9/2/2005 8:58:58 PM
it means conserve your momentumfor example, dont brake unless you know you absolutely have to
9/2/2005 9:14:05 PM
^ding. Coasting to red lights instead of gasing it then coming to an abrupt halt as an example.Cutting back on AC is only good when driving in the city. On the interstate run your ac and keep the windows up.Just popped in a new airfilter and I saved 4 mpg. Curious if the K&N drop in would have saved more.

Water injection. I don't know how much it will help, though. Seriously thinking about cobbling up my own just for the fuck of it, seein's how I've been going through about 75 bucks a week for gas. Even more now.
9/2/2005 10:52:50 PM
water injection will keep your engine clean, mmm mm good.
9/3/2005 6:48:14 PM
I would feel more confident that manually misting water into your intake and revving the motor (old trick) would do a better job at cleaning combustion deposits than throwing some seafoam in the tank[Edited on September 3, 2005 at 10:25 PM. Reason : gfh]

how much do you guys think cruise control helps on the highway? Any?
9/4/2005 12:26:45 AM
cruise control helps because it tries to maintain your speed at the lowest throttle/rpm range much more precise at doing that than your foot so it is a decent bit of mileage help.
9/4/2005 1:20:41 AM
i thought that i read on here that having all of your windows down wastes more gas than have your AC on
9/4/2005 1:44:20 AM
Driving a car with better milage is really the best waythe tips mentioned here will help a little bit, but you could double your mpg by switching cars
9/4/2005 2:03:13 AM
are air filters one of those things that if you get a cheap brand its just as good as an expensive air filter?
9/4/2005 2:35:38 AM
cruise control can also hurt...depends on the car and terrain.
9/4/2005 10:56:14 AM
A good air filter (K&N) will flow more air and last longer than a cheap one. In regards to fuel injector cleaner, Chevron Techron is really good stuff... but it's not a good idea to use it unless you know your fuel filter is clean. If your fuel filter is grimed up, then the fuel cleaner can dislodge the gunk in the filter, and cause your injectors to get even dirtier. So, for a clean fuel line, replace your fuel filter and THEN use fuel injector cleaner (but only use the good stuff... Techron or maybe Redline, the rest is crap). It might require two subsequent tanks with fuel injector cleaner to work.Another thing you should do is buy good, clean gas. BP/Amoco was rated the best in a survey a while back. I'll also use Chevron, since they add Techron to their fuel. Dirty gas (Shell...) can really gunk up your lines.[Edited on September 4, 2005 at 6:58 PM. Reason : ]

didn't BP had some water in their gas like a few years ago? I remember hearing about that but didn't know it if was just hearsay

I've been really tempted lately to try and lean out my SAFC for gas mileage... obviously pinging on a rotary wouldn't be a good idea, especially with my timing advanced. Right now I think i have +5% correction up through about 4000 rpm, and I think on the dyno that was running 13:1 or so .
9/4/2005 11:11:12 PM
not worth it, dude. think about the risk you're taking as opposed to the inconsequential gains you'd make.
9/5/2005 12:20:34 AM
Water injection will not help fuel milege, the opposite, actually...Ahmet
9/5/2005 1:17:20 AM
yeah fuck it, I could just not have a lead foot. I bet that'd do more for me.

i think you have lead for brains

Another way to save gas is to plan your routes. If there's a way through the city that takes less distance than travelling part way through the city, then taking the highway, then travelling partway through the city again, figure out which way uses less actual gas. I did that and figured I could save between .05-.1 gallons of gas per trip to my parents house by just taking buck jones to Cary.
9/5/2005 11:20:45 PM
^that is a good idea
9/5/2005 11:48:17 PM
If you want your fuel injectors cleaned, pull them off the fuel rail and send them to RC engineering. It's like $30/injector. That'll clean them definately but you're not gonna save much money obviously due to the upfront expense. I've gotta send my 550's in to get cleaned because they're a bit leaky.
9/5/2005 11:57:37 PM
at work i had to sign something that said i would stop wasting gasi dont know if everyone did or if it was because they pulled my gps

if you sit too long with the AC on, the pressure in the compressor will build up and it will blow the back out of it. We did it at work and the damn compressor blew the fuck up.Every once in a while, drive down the road a mile or so and the pressure will release.
9/6/2005 8:55:38 AM
how is driving going to affect the ac compressor?
