recently the clock within windows has started to move veryfast. the second hand on the clock will pass each minute within 3seconds. while this is occuring, the double click function with themouse no longer works. When rebooting, the system hangsThe only thing that will allow the system to return to normal isclearing the cmos with the jumper pin. clearing the cmos is only atemporary fix, as the clock speed will become super fast again within aday.no new hardware has been added to the machineno new software has been installedbios has been flashed and updated to the most recent version

How old is the motherboard? I'd try replacing the CMOS battery. And by that I mean buying a new motherboard.

oh yeah, motherboard is 5 months oldits an abit AS8 motherboard. the 3v cmos battery was the first thing that was tried. (with no positive effect)[Edited on September 2, 2005 at 10:16 AM. Reason : the system has not been overclocked at any time]

So the whole system is factory with only an updated BIOS? Maybe it's the BIOS update. Have you researched known issues with it?

i updated the bios in response to the clock issuei have researched known issues with the board and have not come up with anything substantial.also, after emailing abit's tech support i recieved a copy and pasted response with nothing substantial other than the possibility of a faulty power supply which has been ruled out.one person posted the exact same issue in abit's forums several months ago. a resolution to the issue was never posted in that thread. and the original poster could not be reached for comment.
