As far as I can tell, its just a loose connection because I can wiggle the input to the video card and it clears up just fine....

However, I have never had this problem before

Is it a telling sign the monitor is going, the video card is going, both?

Or do I just need to grit my teeth and bare it since I can fix it by wiggling the cable

your connection in the back is just loose.

either the contacts are loose in which case just tighten it up.

or there is something wrong with the connector. In this case you may need a new monitor cable or if you're lucky it might just be that a few pins need straigtening.

The monitor is most likely fine.
