I want to record from tv to my computer and put those files into a dvd.
I have a capture device and know how to record. I know
how to put files onto a dvd, however, i've gotten
these really good looking Scrubs files before, each of them were like 170mb.
They were in divx format and i put like 24 episodes onto one dvd, as files.

I liked this way and wanted to see if i can do this. but everytime
i record something and try to convert it, its like 4gb for 30 minutes.
i am recording in mpeg2 and editing it and rendering it in avi.
even then the picture and sound quality was not very good.

is there a better way of doing this, maybe straight recording to divx,
viewing files on a dvd player isn't a big deal, i would like them all
on one disc even. let me know, thanks for any help

everything you need to know.. it's a bit of homework and the process (rendering) itself is kinda long and cpu-intensive.

you have to use a BITRATE CALCULATOR (included in latest divx/xvid codec encode option screens).

record to highest bitrate you can from your TV capture card, then use a bitrate calculator with the divx or xvid encode and figure out what to use to get your files to 175mb.

standards are: 175mb per 22 minutes for xvid.

so for 30m tv shows, use 175mb (w/o commercials), 60m tv shows use 350mb, 2hr use 700mb.

honestly though, let the hdtv cappers do this job and you just download, unless it's something not released.
