So how much is coming from other countries to help us with Katrina?[Edited on August 30, 2005 at 7:16 PM. Reason : e]

Hahaha...Well, probably something, but I ain't holdin' my breath. We're the richest country in the world, we don't really get pity points.[Edited on August 30, 2005 at 7:19 PM. Reason : redundancy]

I will be impressed if anything comes in.I hope it is on the news if it happens.
8/30/2005 7:15:22 PM
how much money did we give to the fucking indonesians when their shit got flooded...i ain't seen shit from them.
8/30/2005 8:11:44 PM
100 dead vs 100,000
8/30/2005 8:17:22 PM
you can be guaran-damn-teed it'll be a lot higher than 100 before this mess is over
8/30/2005 8:46:20 PM
All the money we had is in that sinkhole called Iraq. Not to mention about 25% of Louisiana's Nat'l Guard.
8/30/2005 9:06:04 PM
you can also be guaran-damn-teed that the tsunami death toll was a lot higher than 100,000.But that's not to say that LA, MS, and AL don't need some help.
8/30/2005 9:09:59 PM
other countries should help, but wont.
8/30/2005 10:58:28 PM
Seriously, our need for foreign assistance is miniscule compared to indonesia and sri lanka's need after the tsunami. No one should be giving us money.

nah, its God punishing New Orleans for once being the biggest slave port in the country
8/31/2005 8:55:33 AM
8/31/2005 9:20:54 AM
FWIW I heard that the German Red Cross was standing by to help both financially and logistically but have not yet been called on for help.
8/31/2005 6:02:46 PM
The whole relief operation is already botched. There are thousands of people on the Interstate and Parking Garages in New Orleans without food or water. No organization has brought them food or water since the flooding began. The United States is setting a perfect example of how NOT to run a rescue mission. You could air lift food and water in Eastern Asia, but you can't drop it on a highway? There is even a report on the wire about a man killing himself on the highway because of the conditions.

speaking of suicide... one of the guys on the upper level of the superdome jumped yesterday... which is not neccessarily a bad thing, since it leaves more resources for those that actually want to live

the US' GDP is pretty insane compared to 90% of the world. Its not like a herd of goats from zaire is going to turn New Orleans around.^oh and yeah, the US gives less than 1 percent of its GNI to foreign aid.http://www.oecd.org/document/3/0,2340,en_2649_201185_34700611_1_1_1_1,00.html[Edited on August 31, 2005 at 10:43 PM. if all the countries of the world gave us 1% of their gdp, we'd be in good shape... that comes out to about $437,500,000,000 ($437.5 Billion)

9/1/2005 7:01:07 PM
well that just blows.. why the hell would india not be there and shri lanka a civil war raveged country be on there... damn it...
9/1/2005 7:02:28 PM
^^^^no, i think that's righton a side note, that's one argument i always gave to people who have the idea that we invaded iraq over oil. if it was about that, we would've done something about venezuela when they were fuckng up the oil market a few years ago.
9/1/2005 7:03:08 PM
if we didnt invade for oil, we sure as hell didnt invade for the current reason of humanitarian needs, b/c there are so many, many better ways to spend 200 billion, or whatever massive number it is on other humanitarian needs that would save and improve a lot more people.

9/1/2005 7:11:02 PM
Ah, we probably don't need rescue teams. They've got a couple hundred helicopers out that way right now I think. FEMA probably has a LOT of resources for this task (enough, at least).
9/1/2005 7:11:26 PM
^^I posted a link though, AND i bolded it
9/1/2005 7:12:51 PM
usually powerful countries reject foreign aidbecause you know, we can take care of our own
9/1/2005 8:17:22 PM
yea, but its not actually about the aid, if you look at the figures its peanuts, and the funny part is some of the nations we give billions in aid to , are giving us a few million in aid, meaning we are getting our own money back... which i find kind of interesting. its more about the gesture
