who's down for a hip hop instrumental production contest? you can also include songs with vocals, you just won't see any from me. haven't figured out how to tally votes, but that's not important yet.

Dijital wins. Go home.
8/30/2005 5:58:56 PM
he just might! but at least we'll get to see what everyone can bring to the table and who here has some talent
8/30/2005 6:11:13 PM
thanks jonathan
8/30/2005 9:46:01 PM

8/30/2005 9:57:59 PM

8/30/2005 9:59:04 PM
ok so we got 2. i'd like to get at least 4-5 if possible
8/30/2005 10:46:20 PM
does anyone else on TWW make beats besides Dijital?Aside from being one of the best at it in the damn region/state, I'm fairly certain he's the best on TWW.
8/31/2005 4:09:09 AM
the point is just to see what people on here can make... it would be cool just to see that regardless of the contest aspect of it.bttt
8/31/2005 8:08:04 AM
i'm honestly surprised by the lack of interest, having seen a few songs posted on here in the past.Kris needs to get on this as well
8/31/2005 12:02:36 PM
I'm downI even got a beat to post, it's really short and simple though, and I'm not quite sure it's hip hop, but it's 92bpm and it's got a crunk lead. http://24.74.14.14/Kojak_-_You_Feel_It.mp3[Edited on August 31, 2005 at 3:27 PM. Reason : ]

if i was a betting kind of person i'd put my money on dijital
8/31/2005 10:04:21 PM
I would too, he's got some killer beats. Now if it was house/trance....
9/1/2005 1:14:10 AM
... I'D WIN! yeah, aside from Dijital i think i'd have a decent chance of winning this. depends on how sample dependent we're talking. Kris' shit sounds basic, but it's harder to make decent synth sounds from scratch than to throw in a bunch of premade samples (not accusing Dijital of doing this, in fact he might record most or all of his stuff).[Edited on September 1, 2005 at 12:16 PM. Yeah if I was really producing a hiphop song I'd probably just completely rip off and resample Chicago's "Street Player", I think hip hop sounds pretty good just using sampled copies of real instruments, but I don't really much enjoy sampling, it just seems like work chopping up wavs so they loop right, I have my fill with that just getting vocals right. But that's not saying that making synth sounds is all that hard, it can be, especially using complicated VSTs or FM synths, but my juno just pours fat basses out of it, and with only one oscillator and a total of about 15 sliders and 8 buttons, it's a breeze to program, now the micron on the other hand... I'd say the hardest thing for any producer is mixdown and mastering. I can always get my synths to where I want them, I can never get my effects quite perfect

I'm getting into the beat production thing. I'm waiting on my keyboard though

with automatic bpm detection, i can make a sample based track in minutes.

here is my lame attempt http://www.purevolume.com/hadjisquestthis is some stuff I made about year ago when I first got my microKorg. [Edited on September 2, 2005 at 11:57 AM. Reason : rrr]

i'd say city lights rearview is the best of those threeand Kris, that doesn't have the correct structure for hip-hop (as far as drum placement and such)
9/3/2005 9:48:42 PM
I might do this if I get bored or something.I've never done it before, though.

What are the best programs for making beats, mixing, sampling, recording, etc.? Some of these beats sound like the soundtrack for Sega Genesis games.I'm about to get a new laptop and I'm thinking of getting a powerbook because of all the media capabilities. How does GarageBand stack up to other music programs?
9/4/2005 12:48:56 AM
Garageband sucks if you're trying to make beats. if you're getting a powerbook, then you should look into getting Reason
9/4/2005 11:56:08 AM
i used to be good at this stuffi get new stuff in my head every day that id like to make into something but i dont have the outlet
9/4/2005 2:25:17 PM
9/4/2005 11:29:34 PM
So, if I want to start doing this and money isn't a huge issue (I'd still like to get the best bang for my buck), what should I buy to get me set up? I'll be doing a decent amount of sampling and I want to use a lot of different sounds (i.e. bells, sitar, etc.).Do I absolutely need a powerbook? What else do I need in addition to the laptop and Reason/whatever?
9/4/2005 11:54:20 PM
buy an internet connection and point your browser to piratebay.orgjust kiddingfruityloops has been one of the best pieces of software i've ever purchased. it's a close second to quake 1.
9/5/2005 12:10:59 AM
Count me in-- Do we have specific rules?Maybe the challenge could be to all use the same song, and remix it?
9/5/2005 12:13:21 AM
I downloaded a demo of Fruity Loops and have been messing around with it for the last 20 min. or so.Pretty cool.
9/5/2005 12:58:25 AM
dang dijital... i am liking this stuff on your site so far
9/5/2005 1:05:31 AM
dont encourage him
9/5/2005 1:37:28 AM
maybe we should just make this a showcase for the first time around? As in everyone post a song or a remix that you've done. What do you think of that?
9/5/2005 1:55:39 PM
wholeheartedly agree.
