late eighties porsche 944 turbo[Edited on August 30, 2005 at 3:04 AM. Reason : whoops didnt notice the reliable part. i guess a well maintained one would be]

I really like 944 turbos, everything about them, but some guy comes on this message board asking about a reliable daily driver, and you suggest a 944 turbo? I mean c'mon... He didn't ask for a second car, he didn't ask about a track car, he said a reliable daily driver, and good on gas. I can think of about a million cars before a 944 turbo (or any other turbocharged german car that's 20 years old).Ahmet

99-02 generation SAAB 9-3 - great gas milage, parts are cheap, they're easy to work on - and as an extension of the NG900 platform, most of the bugs had been worked out by then. Or any random Japanese car that you can find for the money - Camry/Accord - they're pretty much the same - reliable yet boring.Or get a Miata - this is probably what I'm going to do shortly - they're cheap, fuel efficient, and great fun to drive - just have zero trunk space and are damn loud on long highway trips.
8/30/2005 9:22:53 AM
All good suggestions. What about a late 90's m3 (like ScottyC just bought)? How are those in terms of reliability? I've always loved them but have never done much looking into them.
8/30/2005 9:28:26 AM
^I've heard fairly reliable until you break something and then they're DAMN expensive.

if you want a bmw get it, you will be happyjust dont do it because you want something reliable
8/30/2005 9:49:28 AM
^^ compared to my previous 4 cars a Miata is very noisy at highway speeds. (3 german, 1 swedish all 4 door sedans - all nearly silent at speed)An M3 or really any BMW looks affordable initially, but any M-specific parts are big $$, and while the thing probably won't break to the point of not running, there will be a long string of annoyances that will cause you to bleed money - suspension bushings, random sensors, so on.[Edited on August 30, 2005 at 11:03 AM. I know people on this board like to bash the hyundias but Ive had an Elantra for 2 years and I love it for the price of it... my dad paid about $10,000 for it new and he thinks out of all the cars he bought new its the best deal hes ever gotten (and hes bought much nicer cars in the past for himself and for my mother so hes not just compairing it to other cheap cars). Hes bought other new cars in the same price ranges for my sisters and the ones theres were having toubles early on. I get about 35 miles to the gallon but I dont drive in traffic much... I work farther down 64 east so there not a lot of stop and go. Like I said I know they arent popular on this board but if I were total my car today I would in a heartbeat purchase another hyundai. But you boys can go ahead and bash away
8/30/2005 1:10:35 PM
A new Hyundai wouldn't scare me much reliability-wise, especially with that really long warranty. Probably not a bad deal as a new car, though probably a very boring drive.A used one would concern me though. Can you get into a slightly used Mazda 6 for 10K? I've heard good things about those cars.[Edited on August 30, 2005 at 1:31 PM. Reason : z]

Get a non M3 e36 325, they're plenty of fun, and quite a bit cheaper. I know of one for sale, but you don't have to go for that one... Parts are cheap, cars are fun, pretty reliable and still comfortable/quiet, etc. He'll let that thing go for under $6k, it's got the sports package, H/R cup suspension kit, sport leather seats, etc. etc. Ahmet

whos that fag in the pic?
8/30/2005 2:43:07 PM
^^ parts are cheap, just dont get the shit done at a shop, expensive.

the turk is bringing back the tivas
8/30/2005 3:10:42 PM
To everybody PMing me:It's a 93 with 168k miles. Doesn't use any fluids, doesn't leak any fluids. It's black interior on white exterior. It's got all the options, including sports package (sport seats, lsd, even cd changer but there's a clarion mp3 deck in it now), so forth. It's a manual trans, it had never been wrecked, but somebody did hit the driver's side fender recently. As it sits, it's dented but not bad at all. I believe it's a 4 owner car, previous owner being a BMWCCA regional president. The car is VERY clean. If you're interested, you should come see it, drives like a new car. It's been on track a couple of times (road course), did very well. It has NOT been raced. Here's a shot of the interior (excuse my ex):Ahmet

motorcycle is a good daily driver, as long as your not carrying cargo, passengers, and weather permited conditions.

I thought about getting a cheap car (under 5k) and spending money on a nice begginner bike. Not sure what i wanna do yet.

You can get a '98-'00 Discovery in that range. Its not great on gas, and you have to use premium. But its extremely comfortable and well equipped.[Edited on September 24, 2005 at 10:16 AM. Reason : .]

Incognegro, I am aware that the software used for this message board places my user name beside every post that I make. I sign every post off with my first name, it's a habbit from the more formal boards I frequent (most people actually sign off with their full names, but I don't as my name is not that common). My first name and my user name are the same here, but this isn't the case on many boards...I will not post my name this time, as a display of recognition of your point.-
