so let's make the 4th thread this afternoon about brakes.....im currently in the process of trying to change the pads/rotors, i've got the wheel off!! lol, okay but now how do i get the caliper off, i looked all around it, and i found one bolt on the side facing the middle of the car, tried turning it with the same tool i used to take the lugs off the tire, do i need something different? is this the right bolt, seems kinda awkward to get at......I KNOW IM A n00b!!!!also is there ANYTHING else that could make your car shake only when braking bc it seems like the rotors and pads are straight, i mean it looks like there is a lot of pad, and i can see myself in the rotors, but if there's nothing else then i believe you guys, but seriously, how do i get this caliper off, anyone in the lineberry area that would be willing to help would be modestly compensated

should be a bolt at the bottom in the back(inside)when you remove that bolt it will swivel up and its on a pin at the top, then take some wire and hang it from your springs or something, just not your brake lineyou cant just look at them and tell they are warpedthe shaking in the steering wheel while you are braking is from the rotors[Edited on August 25, 2005 at 6:40 PM. ummm it's probably either one or two boltsmight be metric might be standardor it could be torx or allen head also, like a t-34 or something

yea, civic, two bolts, the problem was that i thought "warped" meant the same thing as "worn" but it doesn't, so i think i got it now, i needed a different wrench i guess, gonna get the right tools tomorrow, thanks for all the help guys

put the wheel back on and take it somewhere . no offense but if you cant "find" the caliper bolts your going to hurt yourself

^basicallyif you can't find the bolt or two that holds all that shit together then you probably don't need to be workin on it

nah i mean i found the bolts and got the caliper off and shit, but I was then trying to take the rotor off and one of the screws was stripped really fucking bad, before i did anything to it, so im still fucked, I need a solution for a really stripped screw (again i didn't do it, the person who last worked on it probably did, someone told me to try to cut a new groove, kinda try to make it a flathead screw, but this isn't working, i don't have any air tools, what should I do?this is the first time i've done anything to my car besides change tire and oil change, that's why i was kinda confused about the bolts and stuff, but i've done my research and i think i know how to do it all, i really want to do it myself, it's not a money thing i just want to learn how to work on cars and stuff, if anyone can help with this stripped screw that would be awesome[Edited on August 27, 2005 at 6:35 PM. Ten bucks says it's one of those fucking phillips head screws that holds the rotor on.I usually only put one of them back on when I remount the rotor. They're really pretty unnecessary. To get a boogered one off, I resort to a centerpunch and a hammer. Either that or drill it and use an easy-out. But most times I walk it out using the centerpunch.
