basically I have a desktop that hasnt been used in awhile and is infected. Ive been tryin to get it fixed but it wont allow me to run any online virus scans, or to live update, or install any other antivirus software. I ran the Microsoft anti-spyware which detected 45 infected files but my cpu usage is still at 100%. I notice a file "explorer.EXE, as well as a couple suspicious ones in the task manager. I am in safe mode now, not even half the processes as in regular mode but the explorer.EXE is still there. Any advice? Im not exactly a pro at this kind of stuff...

well apparently there is a virus that takes over explorer.exe? seems to be kinda common from what ive read online?

explorer.exe is not a virus. safe mode, turn off system restore(google this), run spybot/adaware/microsoft adware and remove all they find. run hijack this(google to find) and then paste the log into hjt.iamnotageek.com and delete anything that comes back in red.

it is odd that EXE would be capped.

Formatting your computer would save you a lot of time and effort. Format unless you have data that you just can't lose.
