8/11/2005 9:53:38 AM
some of that might be seasonal
8/11/2005 9:55:40 AM
i'm sorryi didn't realize "a year ago" factored in fucking seasonsi guess august wasn't a summer month last year
8/11/2005 9:58:44 AM
8/11/2005 10:07:13 AM
ahahahahahahah
8/11/2005 10:08:40 AM
of course we're to fucking blame...10 years ago most of the vehicles on the road were still cars...in the last 10 years we've gone from probably around 25% trucks and suvs to between 50 and 60% trucks and suvs...you can't have that kind of a drastic drop in fuel mileage without expecting drastic increases in the price of gas...
8/11/2005 10:18:37 AM
Gas isn't expensive.
8/11/2005 10:27:36 AM
i dont mind the prices going up. i might have to pay around $23 to fill up my tank, but i know suvs have to pay over $50 to fill up theirs
8/11/2005 10:32:03 AM
Yeah, but it's fun for some to bitch.
8/11/2005 10:32:06 AM
the best is H2 owners literally whining at the pump. too bad no one pities them.

8/11/2005 10:48:10 AM
Maybe the number of motorists is up by 1.4% from last year? What's our population reaching driving age growth over the past year? I'm too lazy to look it up.Hell, who cares.
8/12/2005 1:58:05 AM
or heyperhapsSUV SALES CONTINUE TO GROWyou wanna look up some factssee which is growing fasterthe price per barrellorthe number of explorers sold thanks to "ford employee pricing"
8/12/2005 3:18:08 AM
We didnt seem to have trouble lowering consumption last time there was a fuel crisis
8/12/2005 3:26:21 AM
you know what, that inflation adjusted shit is bullshit.
8/12/2005 3:32:03 AM
8/12/2005 3:39:48 AM
clearly, it's because there are more roads to drive on.
8/12/2005 6:11:49 AM
Do you guys REALLY believe that SUVs are to blame for these gas prices? Have you even been paying attention to the extent to which China is ramping up its oil consumption?
8/12/2005 6:59:57 AM
oil at $66 a barrel and rising doesn't help. just wait till it hits 100
8/12/2005 8:10:41 AM
8/12/2005 10:00:04 AM
we really need to go to war with china. they keep fucking our economy up with their damn boom.
8/12/2005 10:36:36 AM
8/12/2005 10:48:20 AM
look at oil consumption over the last 10, hell 5 years for us and china and see which has a startling increase.different thread. sry[Edited on August 12, 2005 at 11:12 AM. Reason : *]
8/12/2005 11:11:39 AM
SUVs are a red herring.A lot of factors go into the increase in demand including a larger number of drivers, longer commutes due to urban sprawl, etc. Attributing it solely to SUVs is simply fallacious. You can add an increase in SUVs there, assuming SUV sales have also increased since a year ago, but I don't know if that is true or not.
8/12/2005 11:46:26 AM
8/12/2005 11:54:47 AM
Bring conspicous consumption down.Bring local refineries and solar power up.
8/12/2005 12:30:13 PM
seei'll go with bobby's points heregg
8/12/2005 1:01:59 PM

Well, the per-capita income in 1980 was $12,276. In 2002 it was $36,340. So, if in 1980 the price of a gallon of gasoline broke $1, to be comparable today it must be above $3 a gallon. Don't get us wrong, the price of a gallon of gasoline, inflation adjusted, was far less in 1998 than it is today. So, over the short term of the past seven years the price of gasoline has gone up almost 2.5 fold. The trick is, from 1980 to 1998 it fell over three fold. So, if you are too young to remember life before 1998, then from your sheltered perspective todays gas prices are outragious.
8/12/2005 2:30:56 PM
Someone on here did a comparison of average wages/gas prices that was pretty good a while back.
8/12/2005 2:33:12 PM
sure, im paying more for gas then i did in the mid 90s.but im also making a shitload more money....so its all good in my book.
8/12/2005 2:33:15 PM
YOU KNOW HOW TO ARGUE WITH ALL THIS INFLATION SHITCOLLEGE KID INCOMEI DONT FUCKING CARE IF SOME ASSHOLE WHO MADE 12000$ TEN YEARS AGO PAYED THE SAME FOR GAS AS I DOFUCKI DON'T EVEN MAKE 12000$.MAKING $12000 A YEAR AND PAYING 3.00$ A GALLON FOR GAS WOULD BE A BIG FUCKING IMPROVEMENT OVER MY CURRENT SITUATION.CHAMP.
8/12/2005 3:10:47 PM
