Why isn't this an alternative?
8/9/2005 10:12:52 AM
When was adoption outlawed?
8/9/2005 10:14:00 AM
I must've totally missed when I typed in that adoption was outlawed. weird.
8/9/2005 10:14:30 AM
Well you make it sound like adoption isn't an alternative.Or are you some pro life prick who thinks that the only proper ways are to have the baby and keep it or give it up for adoption?
8/9/2005 10:16:01 AM
Something tells me that in the Abortion. Again. thread that if I had responded with "when was abortion outlawed" you would've been as equally perplexed by the response as I was with yours.Proper? Sure. Responsible? Absolutely. So you made a mistake. Fine. We all do. But when my mistake will indefinitely alter another life, to the point of death, then yes, I think adoption is both responsible and proper.Call me a prick... that sure is a prickish thing for me to say. I mean, geez, let the kid live... wow... I'm such a prick.
8/9/2005 10:19:53 AM
You're not a prick for saving a life, you're a prick for wanting to take away individual freedom of choice. HUGE DIFFERENCE
8/9/2005 10:26:51 AM
I think you're a prick if you know you can give the baby up for adoption, but decide to burn it with saline solution and vacuum out the brains... Actually, that's a pretty good definition of a prick.
8/9/2005 10:28:12 AM
because its that easy and all the children get adoptedespecially black ones, people love adopting black childrenits not like they will go overseas to avoid it or anything
8/9/2005 10:31:26 AM
I never said it was easy. But you have a situation where there is a clear guilty party and a clear innocent party (rape aside)...The innocent party here (the baby) gets killed.Just seems fucked up to me when you can deliver the baby, have it taken out of the room and you'll never see it again. It seems completely selfish to kill it.
8/9/2005 10:34:46 AM
That's like saying someone's a prick because they like vanilla ice cream instead of chocolate. You're judging people based on their personal decisions. I'm judging you on how you want to impose your personal decisions on society as a whole. Again, HUGE DIFFERENCE.BTW, when did I ever say where I stood on the topic? Just because I called you a pro life prick? There are plenty of pro life people who actually have the same views as me, just as there are plenty of pro choice that have the same views as me. It's not black and white you know....
8/9/2005 10:36:13 AM
what if you dont want to carry the child?and who cares if its selfish, since when are people not selfish?
8/9/2005 10:36:57 AM
Giving someone a hormone pill isn't vaccuming out brains. Can we please keep this mass of unsubstantiated opinions to one thead?
8/9/2005 10:39:19 AM
Unfortunately, under the law, you can be selfish in this situation... but it gives me the right to judge the selfish parties here especially when your selfish actions DESTROY a life. There are other selfish acts that are punishable under the law and are a lot less severe of an act:stealing, embezzeling, to name a few.
8/9/2005 10:39:46 AM
8/9/2005 10:41:13 AM
how can you compare someone's choice to eat vanilla ice cream over chocolate to having an abortion
8/9/2005 10:45:36 AM
because when it boils down to it, it's their fucking choice about what they want to do in lifeis it any worse than every time someone talks about pro life, they show a picture of a third term aborted fetus in pieces? fuck no
8/9/2005 10:49:08 AM
there is a hormone pill that aborts a baby? are you talking about plan b or abortion?
8/9/2005 10:49:15 AM
i just want to make it clear that we are discussing a type of abortion that even most pro-choicers find morally reprehensible
8/9/2005 10:49:36 AM
Hormone pills I'm fine with... there isn't conception. The morning after pill, go for it.

2nd is even kind of late. You have 3 months to figure it all out, what you want to do. I think 2nd trimester is on the barbaric side of things.Ideally, every woman would carry the child to term and give it up for adoption. Of course, we don't live in an ideal world, but I think an ideal world is something we should all strive for.I'm still morally against abortion at any term (pending certain circumstances), but for right now, it would be a step in the right direction to outlaw 2nd term abortions, and certainly, 3rd term and partial birth (I think 3rd/partial is actually illegal in most states).
8/9/2005 11:02:12 AM
I can agree with that.
8/9/2005 11:04:02 AM
i think a better step in the right direction would be to educate people on other alternatives, fix the problems with adoption that make a lot of people go overseas when they want to adopt, make it clear that abortion is immoral, and not make it illegal
8/9/2005 11:06:33 AM
because with adoption your vagina has to get all stretched out and you gotta carry around that thing inside you forever, when you could just have it sucked out
8/9/2005 11:09:05 AM
Absolutely. Adoption should be fixed and I have no problem paying higher taxes if they went to fix adoption, provide better homes for foster kids, etc. That's half of the equation. The other half is educating the women who would have abortions about the alternatives. If you look at the stats in the abortion thread, the people who are having abortions are the largely uneducated anyway. So we know there's probably an information gap.
8/9/2005 11:09:59 AM
so then why do we need the make it illegal halfseems like we shold leave it as an option for the women that might still choose it (or we could just tell everyone how they are supposed to think. complete socialism is past due)
8/9/2005 11:40:49 AM
The same reason we call it illegal for those who choose to murder someone else. Are you promoting a standardless society where we all can "choose" what we will no matter if it effects anyone else?
8/9/2005 11:58:49 AM
i dont want to bring kids into this messed up world, but i want to adopt one of the thousands of children who dont have parents. overpopulation is such a problem in the world. I wish that there were tax incentives or *something* that would get people to want to adopt instead of making more babies.
8/9/2005 12:08:39 PM
The reason people don't adopt American kids a lot of the time is because they come from uneducated fucked up families. You get a Chinese girl and she comes from a smart family that just wanted a boy so they stuck her in an orphanage. If the people in America giving their children up for adoption most of the time weren't uneducted / drug users / from abusive homes / [insert other social problem], then I'm sure more American children would be adopted.I know that I'm generalizing here. I'm sure there are a lot of teen pregnancies that get aborted by smart kids and I'm sure there are Chinese babies that come from problem families. Either way it doesn't matter. It's not anyone's place to tell a person what they should do with their body.

Third trimester abortions are EXTREMELY rare. They do not even make up a fraction of 1% of all abortions. The first trimester is only 3 months. Some woman do not realize they are pregnant until they are half way through that period. Partial birth would be illegal right now if it was not for partisan politics. Clinton would have outlawed it with a clause for the health of the mother. Across the board, abortion and teen pregnancy are decreasing. Its not because less kids are having sex. With improved contraception, abortions will continue to decrease.

north carolina/wake county both arent helping things with their "abstinence ONLY" policy in their middle and high schools
8/9/2005 1:54:23 PM
Yeah, the internet and cable TV makes the whole "abstinence only" argument pretty fucking stupid and ineffective.
